Post 1999 A6 Issue!!

Hey all, I'm a fairly new audi owner and i already have a strange problem...

When i first bought my 1999 A6 it ran beautifully, very responsive, fast as hell, smooth ride.. bascially everything i wanted when i bought it. I've only had it for a month now and and things started going south!

Recently i was driving in an area that had a quite a bit of hills. I was driving up and down these hills and as i was driving i felt the car lose alot of power and i mean ALOT. i was having a hard time climbing these things. And after that the car had zero pick up and was shifting horribly. i was going 20 km/h around my block at 4000RPM!! (Still does this, even after the trip to the mech.) So I took it in to get looked at and the mech. said that when he ran the diagnostics he found some strange codes that he thought was the MAF. ("strange codes" gimme a break) but i agreed to have the MAF replaced, $500 gone...

problem is... the car still isnt running that great! it has a little bit more pick up but not close to what it used to have. But now i have a new "strange" problem. If the car has been sitting awhile and i go to drive it, EXTREMELY UNresponsive. i can have the thing floored and it moves but the RPMs just go up and down. Then after a little while the problem seems to just go away....

but at the end of the day the power is just not the same and as good as what it should be even with the new MAF. all i want is this beautiful car to run proporly again!!! What do you think the problem is? i've read a bunch of threats and it always seems to come up with some sensor being defective but i've already eliminated one with my $500 bills... any suggestions would be appreciated!!!!

Sounds like a transmission problem, and you should find a new mechanic. You need a copy of the Ross-Tech: Home software, a diagnostic cable, and a laptop to properly diagnose your car. The free version of the software will allow you to read the codes and look up the meaning on their website, here: Main Page - Ross-Tech Wiki I purchased the full software, and use a cable from e-bay that was under $25. I got mine from seller szhid out of china, works fine. Search for Vag-com usb interface. One compatible with 409.1 software is what you'll need. Once you have the codes that are stored in the ecu and the transmission control module, then post back Good Luck.

Hope this is a vacuum leak that causes described symptoms.

Multitronic=> FWD?

Engine, mileage?

Get the DTC, but Multitronics are proven to go bad .... repairs are not an option..
(honest piece of advice-consider end of this car's ownership,,)

Sorry,

it only has about 148000KM on it, im assuming its not anything that would potentially end its life.. or at least i hope not!
