Question 01 A6 2.7T synthetic vs mineral oil

Hello all,
I recently purchased a used A6 2.7T. Judging by the way the oil looks i think the previous owner was not using synthetic oil. I must go for an oil change soon and i heard it`s bad to change to synthetic oil if the engine is used to mineral but it`s ok to switch to mineral from synthetic. i was wondering if anybody is running on regular oil with no problems. I know I`m not supposed to use mineral because of the turbos. But an audi technician told me that if i`m not sure, i should put regular. Presently my car is burning around 600 to 800 ml of oil / 1000 km and there is no leak or smoke . Again the audi technician told me that`s within standards.

Thanks for any help/ideas

Only use synthetic. This applies to pretty much all euro cars.
Non synthetic can more easily coke in the turbos, plus it does not give your engine the protectio. It needs.
You should be using the approved vw502.00 or higher oils, all of which are synthetic.
If you have high consumption move to a heavier grade, and check your pcv system.

Haha, don't take your car to any tech that tells you to use non-synth oil if you're not sure what to use...wow, that's incompetence at its finest.

I don't care what Audi says - remember that they have cover their asses for warranty - I would not be okay with an engine consuming nearly a litre per 1000km. As Jordon said, check your PCV and emissions systems; and, you can pull some turbo piping to see if you have an excessive amount leaking from the turbos. Some oil is to be expected, though. Failing that, it's likely your valve stem seals.

That said, switch to a proper oil and reevaluate your consumption rate - it may be improve.

I have written many posts concerning the different oils and the reasons. Agree with the above comment on using only 100% synthetic and with the vw502.00 approvals. Its not a problem to change oils now and I do suggest it.
