thinking of buying an audi

Hi there,
new to the forum

im looking to buy a winter vehicle, a relative of a friend of mine is selling a 1998 Audi A6 2.8 quattro... It has 216,000 kms and seems to be in good shape cosmetically.

I was just wondering, based on anyones experience on the C5 series audi, how are they? Is there anything i should know before i buy it?

All i want is a good awd vehicle, and hes selling it for really cheap as he is in the market for a new car and i'm just giving him 1500, the dealership offered him 1000 for trade in

Please let me know!!! Thanks!

Andy

Re: thinking of buying an audi

Audi's need TLC. From my recent purchase, the biggest gotchas are the maintenance items if they haven't been done. Timing belt, transmission fluid, driveshaft boots, and rear transmission seal can quickly run into $thousands if they haven't been done lately. Don't ask how I know. Otherwise the major components seem to be reasonably robust, and the cars are extremely capable and fun to drive.
