temperature sending unit 2000 A6

:???:I'm looking for the temperature sending unit on an 2000 Audi A6 2.8 Quattro. The gauge inside the car works only once in awhile.

Ull have to change the temperature sensor on the car one of the most common things its not that expensive to buy it anyways and once its done ur gauge should be able to tell you the exact temprature

Re: temperature sending unit 2000 A6

Isn't there a sensor(sending unit) that senses the temperature of the engine and then relays it to the gauge inside the car. If not, then how does the temperature gauge get its reading?

Behind the engine on the passenger's side, remove the intake hose and look straight down behind the motor and you should see it facing straight upwards towards you.
To change it pull the plastic clip out and pull up on the sensor, you will lose some coolant.
Just make sure not to take off the coolant resivior cap or you will loose most of your coolant.
Make sure u have The right one. the Have 1 with round plug in. And one with square one. Watch out there are 2 types of sensors either the green one or the blue one. But i would say it is usually the blue sensor because the green is mostly used for the 1.8t.
