Default Common 2000 A6 2.8 problems

Hi,

I spent several thousands in the last 15 months to fix oil leaks, ABS module, upper control arm, etc. in addition to maintenance items like timing belt. Just wondering what other common problems there are with 2000 A6 2.8 and how costly they are to fix. Frankly I don't feel like sinking too much more into the A6 if the problems keep up, with all the amazing deals being offered on 07 and 08 models.

BTW, can someone recommend a good mechanic in Calgary? I'm done going to the dealer because they charge too much and do a lousy job. One time they didn't unplug the computer properly and caused the door chime to go off continuously. They refused to admit their mistake and cost me $$ to fix it elsewhere. Been to the "German Car Specialist" and not impressed with them either. They caused oil to leak all over my garage after replacing oil sensor. At least they admitted their mistake and fixed the leak for free.

Thanks and Happy Holidays.

108 views and nobody lives in Calgary? Mine is a 98 and no major problems. Had a few recalls done by the dealer with one being control arms in the front. I'm not sure 'bout 2000 but shouldn't they be the same? Some other common problems with A6 in general are pixel screen dim or dead pixels, heated steering wheel non functioning.

Thanks for the reply. I decided to give Tunedub a try based on reviews on various forums. Spent another few hundreds on CV boot replacement. There shouldn't be anything major after this according to the mechanic. Will keep it another year and see.
