Default Buying a 2001 A6 2.7T

The information screen on the cluster is in french. Do I have to take it to the dealer to get it switched to english? Someone says I can buy a cable that will allow me to get into the computer and make this and other changes... what kind of cable?

Thanks for the help!

How much is the cable? Do you need software also? Is it easy to do? Dealer charges $60 plus tax to change to English. I am trying to figure out if it is worth getting the cable or if I should just pay the dealer the $60. Any advise is appreciated.

Picked up the A6 today and the seller had changed the display to English. I saw the cables on ebay for $18 and they say you can download a basic version of the software to use. I think I will buy it... I may only use it when I get the oil changed at the local shop... but it may lead to more once I see what it does.

Thanks for the link to Ross-Tech... it was very useful.

glad to help
the best mod to do when you get your cable is the one touch lock/unlock
with remote window up/down

(you can roll down your windows with your remote)
