Audi a6 brake lights issue
 
hi, mayb somebody can help me here . i hav a 98 audi a6 and for some reason the brake lights dont work. they do work when the brake pedal is depressed but they do not turn on when headlights r on . also the hazards dont work either but turn signals do. did check the fuses and the bulbs but cant seem to get to the bottom of it.. any input wld be greatly appreciated.

Most likely and easiest to replace culprit is the brake light switch under the dash. Second thing for the hazzards may be the hazzard relay (its part of the hazzard flasher button assembly).

can someone tell me how to open the panel to the brake pedal. i tried a bit and it doesnt seem to come off tht easy . am i doing something wrong ? thanks in advance.

Check the brake switch for the fault

you can see most of the bolts by just looking however you need to remove the cover over the stearing colum, just blelow the cluster (just pulls off) and there is the last 2
