2.7T - Weird Engine Hum - help diagnose

2002 2.7T with 150,0000 kms:

The engine hums (mid-pitch) sort of similar to the same sound you hear when a transport truck drives by on the highway... only when accelerating mildly, and only at 2 points in the RPM range.

If I stop accelerating when the hum starts, I can make it last until I accelerate more or less from that point.

Any ideas?

Kind of like a dentists drill? Turbos.

What points in the RPM range?

It's not as high-pitched as a dentist's drill - more like the sound of a recorder, the kind your music teacher gave you in grade 4 music class.

There are 2 tones, and it's inconsistent through the RPM range, but I've noticed it the most at ~2700 and ~3300.
