01 A6 2.7T QUATTRO Questions

Hi Guys - I'm looking at an '01 A6 2.7T Quattro with a manual tranny. Its got 107,709 k's on it..is there anything I should really check out or look out for that I could use to negotiate a better deal? I don't want to have huge repair bills in the first year or so if I'm to purchase the vehicle. Any info would be most helpful...I'm actually trying to decide between an 01 S4 and the A6...which would you guys recommend?

Thanks!

Even tho both cars your considering have the 2.7T, the S4 and A6 are very different cars so you should test drive at least one of each to better determine which you prefer.

The mileage you listed means the '01 A6 should have a new Timing Belt Kit installed, ask about service history including possible turbo's and clutch replacement, etc.

What would you say the difference is between the two?? I've driven the S4 but not the A6 yet(Hopefully will test one this week). Would it be better to look at the A6 4.2? Out of the three wich gets the best gas milleage?

Thanks again!

owning an a6 2.7t myself I would say that the a6 has way more room, it is heavier than the s4 and the suspension responds differently than the s4. but yes check if the timing belt service has been done. the 4.2 will be even heavier but the 4.2 wheel well flares are quite nice. all in all drive both see which one you personally prefer.

S4 2.7t will get better gas mileage (unless you race it) but it requires 91 octane which is expensive shiet. So if your worried about gas mileage then get a hybrid lexus (Great ride). The 4.2 will allow you to run 87 safely where as it would ping and drive like crap on a 2.7t bi turbo. So with gas prices expected to rise again in the near future, if you can't afford $2 per litre regular then beware of the gas guzzlers.

Ok looks like I'm leaning towards the A6 2.7t with a 6spd...but now I'm kinda feeling the A6 4.2L...tell me the diff bettwen those 2, and the pros and cons of each...what's the gas milleage like with the V8?

Thanks

They get about the same mileage which is i think about 16-17mpg city and 22-24mpg highway. I'm sure if you keep the 2.7t out of boost when driving, you can squeeze more mileage. Performance wise the 2.7t is more upgradable, just a chip upgrade will give it more power then the v8. The v8 engine will be more reliable vs the 2.7t which might need the turbos rebuilt after 150,000KM of use. I'd say take the 2.7t for performance, or the 4.2 for reliability.

how much is the 2.7T you're looking at? sport option?

if you can get a 2.7t manual, with sport option, hands down pick it up......then we can be buddies

The A6 2.7t is $12.900 with 107,xxx k's...the V8 is $11.500 with 159,xxx k's...the 2.7t is a 6 spd manual. How can I tell if it has the sport option though?
