Yes and be prepared for the expense. While you're at it, replace the torque converter seal, rear transmission shaft seal if Quattro.
Check and test the venting system, plugged venting will also be the cause of the leak. Loose main crank bearings are also another cause.

One way or another, either the engine or transmission will require removal.
Lift Hoist
One special tool, transmission jack (preferred method) or engine lift.
Rear seal installer 2003/3
The RPM sender must be removed or damage will occur. Adjustment tool 3308 is required!
If it's a manual transmission, crankshaft holder 3242.
If it's all wheel drive, 3298 alignment fixture (4w) drive shaft.
