Default What is a reasonable delivery charge?

I'm hoping to buy an Audi A4 (2009) and am discussing price with the dealer. Sadly, I haven't had much luck negotiating anything below sticker

I was surprised at the delivery/PDI charges and was wondering what others have experienced.

Here are the charges:

Freight / PDI $1,995
Air tax $100
Tire Tax $20
Documentation fee $199

When I complained about the Freight / PDI I was told that this charge also included the block heater and a charge for the metallic paint (surprising because I'm ordering ibis white, which I don't think has metallic paint).

Am I getting ripped off?

Thanks - I did see that 7% discount - but I think it was for an Avant - so I'm not sure it would be comparing apples to apples. I did spot a post that indicated someone received a 2% discount for a A4 B8 sedan.

Nothing yet on what a reasonable delivery charge is - although I'm told standard vehicle delivery charges (assuming a full trailer load of vehicles ) is in the $800 range. This means my dealer is charging over $1000 for just the PDI (isn't that just washing the car and pulling off the shipping material? - yikes!).

To put things in perspective, the delivery/handling fee in Houston is around 750-800 US dollars. It's possible that its much lower here because the VW/Audi receiving port is around 40 miles from the dealership.

That number did not include dealership fees, title fees or taxes. That $1000 could also include the cost of future loaners if your car is being serviced, and some kind of insurance fee (they said that if the car was stolen and not returned within a month or two they would pay like 5-10k, the details are really hazy).

I just purchased an A4 2009, I got $700 off the price.

By the way I was told the same think about the block heater.

However I was told yesterday by Audi Canada that Audi will not be making block heater for the 2009 models.

I phoned the dealer and asked him to come up with a solution, since I was charged for this famous block heater, I am waiting.... for an answer

Please let me know if someone have a solution or had the same experience to share.

Thank you

I've been quoted approx. $1500 to 2000 off sticker on a 3.2 by multiple dealers. No discount on misc. charges.

Hi Gilles - does that mean the 2009 A4 you just bought didn't come with a block heater.

My A4 is still on order (Feb. arrival now) - but when I asked about the block heater they said it was included. Maybe I better double check.....

May be for you guys in Regina require the car plug to a block heater. There's no definite need for that here in T.O. Temp. seldom goes below -35 in winter.

Have you tried Pfaff Audi in Woodbridge??? I just purchased a 09' A4 2.0T Prem there and they are quite good in handing out discount to customer. My approach is be reasonable and stick to your bottom price when negotiate.
