Dealer is offering 5 year time and rim insurance for $499. I am thinking about taking it as 5 years is a long time and for whatever reason I seem to go through at least a tire or two over that time. My question though is the rim, I have never cracked an alloy rim and just wonder if this is a big risk on the A4 ?

I think you may want to review the fine print on that deal. I doubt it will cover regular wear of tires and any damage you may do to the rims.

what is included in the policy? curb rash, paint chip, corrosion... if those are not covered then i wouldn't bother.

Tires come with their own warranty too from the manufacturer.

Tires includes nails, etc, rims are just cracked rims that render them unusable. Tire wear not included.

I say skip the insurance. A wheel repair is around $150. and replacement tires are relatively inexpensive assuming you dont buy them from a dealership ...

So you can repair a cracked rim? did no know that.

I think you are right, I generally am self insured on most things (outside of normal house, car and life).

I understand you can provided its done too bad. That said, I'm not sure I'd want to use a cracked rim for other than a spare after repair though.
