Do not spray! There's no need.

Cheeba,

I did mention that the forge and the composition is different. The chemical make up could have a much better pure steel and such as an example. but no matter what, the composition is still effected by the rust.

It's a tradeoff. It'll help protect the metal, but it'll deteriorate all of the rubber bushings that it comes into contact with, which the majority on these cars are part of the suspension. Rubber and oil do NOT mix well.

These cars are very well protected from the factory. Keep it clean, go through a car wash that also has an underbody spray and you'll be good to go. Spend the money keeping the car clean and don't worry about the oil ruining your rubber bushings and costing you a LOT of money to replace. I'm pretty sure that the warranty won't cover the bushings once you've saturated them with oil - it's pretty easy to tell when you look at them, they tend to really swell up then fall apart.

Just my 2c.

The rust resistance doesn't really have anything to do with the fact that the steel is forged or it's composition. It's basically due to the fact they galvinize all the body panels before panting.

I asked my dealer the same thing.. He warned me to stay away for warranty reasons..

What you should know ...

As per wikipedia:
Audi produces 100% galvanized cars to prevent corrosion, and was the first mass-market vehicle to do so, following introduction of the process by Porsche, c.1975. Along with other precautionary measures, the full-body zinc coating has proved to be very effective in preventing rust. The body's resulting durability even surpassed Audi's own expectations, causing the manufacturer to extend its original 10-year warranty against corrosion perforation to currently 12 years.

However, if you crash your car and get things repainted....on the part that it was repainted, warranty is voided.

Also, if they have to repaint, they sand through everything, go back to sheet metal and paint - so you should rust proof at least whatever door/hood/trunk lid that was repainted/replaced.

I would do rust check..also the best way to find out how audi's age is to look @ the older B5's & see if they are starting to rust. Usually Rust starts after the 8th year esp in salt driven countries. Maybe guys with b5's can help us out & let us know how the body on the cars are doing.

I know that on my vw mk3 it started to rust after about the 7th year.. & I look & most MK3's and most are rusting. esp the hatch.... buddy has 95 mk3 used rust check & not a speck of rust.

listen, u dont need to spray anything. audi is made to last. theres no point in wasting your money to spray some oil on ur car. is a freaken new car. if it was an 98 then maybe u should. for now leave the car alone and keep your money in your saving account or go buy an ice cream.

i know u really want the best for your car, but really... u dont need it. audi is rust proof. if they were made to rust, they would be recalled already.

trust me every car rusts...esp since we live where salt is king.
it should be done every year & also you should not wait till the car get's old.

Hey you know what works better at rust prevention than an oil spray?? Primer Sealer and Paint! Have you ever left a piece of P&O (pickled and oiled) Steel out in the rain for a few days? or even just the morning dew? It rusts. Oil does very little to stop rust. I would save the money for scratch repairs.

As for the underside I would be careful, there isn't really that much under there that will rust and oil tends to penetrate rubber parts drastically shortening their life.

Just wash your car regularly.

Just my opinion
