I just got a new (well, slightly used) 2009 A4 2.0T Quattro. I am curious as to people's opinion on whether to get it oil sprayed or not. The winter salt is harsh, but I am hearing differing opinions on whether to get it sprayed or not.

What is the consensus here?

I've only had my car 2 days, but it's awesome!

Go to krown if in toronto go to krown lake shore, spray it, its good for the car and prevents rust damage

I located in Ottawa. There is a Krown here as well. I am just hearing so many opinions from Audi owners, mechanics, etc. about later Audi's. Saying it's a waste nowadays the way they are built. Any people here on the forum that don't spray and are happy? (i.e. no rust, etc..)

Well metal is metal right? i mean it could be a better forge overall it is still going to be affected by rust, not as such high rate but still there. And in the long run it would be much better to spray. For resale price and to keep the car. Audis do come with 12 year rust protection, that how sure they are with their material, but its still metal.

Thanks GeneKam for the info. Is there anything about spraying and warranty that I should be worried about? I agree, metal is metal, just I have been told by so many people now that I should not spray. aahhh... what to do?!?!?!

Well some people say that audi will not warranty after the car is sprayed, while others say it is. Krown, according to them presumes your warranty so it should not be an issue. But do go to the local dealer and ask them just to make sure.

Spraying will provide better protection to cars that aren't already protected. Yours is a relatively new car and I believe comes from the factory with some sort of protection already ... have you called Mark Motors to ask them ?

Yes it's true that all new cars nowadays come off the factory with some sort of rust proofing already. But since you are in the east coast where winter and salt are harsh i say you should spray it. If you were in vancouver i would just say nah

No need to drill and spray on the Audis, but I would recommend having under the hood and the underside as well as the suspension components all hit with Krown rust protection.

The bodies are well galvanized/coated/covered/painted from the factory. Everything that is bolted on to the chassis is open season for salt/sand/water.

Shamusom, detail the car (properly!) and put on several coats or wax/sealant; a November application will last you through Winter. The underbody/suspension/drivetrain are another story, and less of a DIY job. After seeing the salt crusted on cars in Ontario, I would do everything I can to keep that crap off cars!


Metal is metal? Other than having some similar chemical and physical properties, you couldn't be more incorrect. Not only in the content of the metals, but also it's treatments and production techniques. I also don't think any body panels are forged Also, the 12 year rust perforation warranty is contingent on many factors; and, is designed to never be needed unless there is a rare case of a factory defect.
