Hey all,

The audi manual says not to use any water repelling coating agents on the windshield (i.e. Rain-X or equivalent), has anyone applied it regardless of the warning? Does it affect the rain sensor or something?

I didnt know you werent supposed to do any Rain-X and i did, well to put it mildly it sucks, it does work. when its raining, but when the sun is out it blinds me for some reason.

dont use rain-x!!

I just applied Aquapel (PPG product) and was blown away by how well it worked in the rain last night. The only "issue" is that you have to make sure to do a good job of wiping it off after applying as I initially had a couple of spots on the windshield that looked "dirty". The rain sensor worked fine - I made sure not to apply it over the sensor. Picked up a 4 pack on ebay for approx $20. USD and only used 2 for all 4 windows on my ride.

Yeah, I heard Aquapel is way better than Rain-X and last longer too. Thanks for the advice, I think I'm going to try it. Btw, where is the rain sensor located? lol

I have an older 02 A4 with no rain sensor and use Rain-X all the time and works surprisingly well. I find it works just as well to Apply then let dry to a hase then remove with a wet cloth as it's much easier to remove.

You can use RainX if you are willing to do it right. I use it and it works so well that I do not need to use wipers. The faster you drive the better.
Be warned - do not use it on dirty windshield or you will regret it later.
Clean your windshield with acetone and some window cleaner. Use both.
Than apply RainX. Do not use paper towels as there is glue in them and it will stick to your windshield forever. Remember RainX once applied can not be removed whattever you do.

I use rainX on a regular basis. Works great!!! Lasts about 2-4 weeks.
