Well my Audi 2.0 litre was an oil burner till the dealer switched to Mobil 1 from Castrol. I would strongly suggest you use Mobil 1 in your new Audi too. Never have heard of any Audi 2.0 litre burning oil with Mobil 1... but we have with Castrol. Just read the posts here and other places. Good Luck!

I recently purchased a used 2009 Audi A4 2.0T Quattro and it is "consuming" about a liter of oil every 2000km. The manual states the this level of consumption is within specs. This seems very excessive to me.

I am thinking of trying Mobil 1 but am skeptical that changing oil brands will resolve this. I am also unsure whether I should prematurely get an oil change done with Mobil 1. I still have 11,000km before next oil change, but If I wait it's going to be cutting too close to warranty expiration, and may not be able to get this issue adressed at all.

Thanks,
Marco.

May as well try and see what happens.

I'm kind of leery of buying an Audi for now. When I do find the right car (2009 and up), I'm making sure a compression test gets done and thoroughly inspect that engine (plugs, cat, exhaust, etc).

Even Ladas didn't burn oil in their day!

If you buy from an Audi dealer and the car has under 100K on it, generally the dealer will add a full warranty, thru Audi that doubles the original warranty! Your Niagara dealer uses the "right" oil in 2.0 litre Turbos... I love my car, runs great! NO oil burning.. I can't for the life of me understand that some posters above are apprehensive about changing oil brands! What's the big deal when there is a very good chance that it will help??? You most likely go to different gas stations, so why not change oil brands??? You will even change to an oil grade that is compatible to Audi specs! Do yourself.. a favour and try changing oils, if it does not work, then change back! Good Luck

A dealer will take a used Audi perform a 300 point detailed inspection, once it passes the car qualifies as a pre-owned certified Audi and comes with an additional 2 years/ 80,000kms total of warranty coverage, (although not exactly the same as the original 4 year warranty). You can get the details on the Audi.ca web site under the certified pre-owned tab.

I am not against changing oil brands, I have a fantastic dealer that uses Audi specified oil, I change that oil every 5000 kms without exception and have had no issues with oil usage. Until a Chemical engineer with a background in lubricants explains to me why to different oil brands that meet the same specification can react so differently in an engine I will not rush to take my Audi elsewhere for service. Wolfsburg, it's not that I don't believe you and I am happy that your oil burning issue has been solved, I would like to know the science behind this before I go and change something especially since I have had no issues.

Just took my car into the Audi dealer and they have performed stage 1 of the oil consumption test. Changed PCV valve and other part (seal?)), and topped up oil. I go back in 1000km to see if issue is resolved.

I'll update on results. Best case scenario, no further work is required.

I hear ya! I'm just stuck on the notion that and oil burning engine stays that way until an overhaul. Hence why I'm going to make sure all will be good before making a final purchase.

I'm in no rush to buy just yet. Doing my research and all right now.
