Default Oil level in Minimum

Hi, my 2013 a4 got oil change in 68000 kms, and today MMI shows the oil level is in the MIN which had 76000 kms now. Does it mean that my A4 has the oil consumption problem? Thank you for answering the question.

From what I know about these cars is the sensors in your oil tank are quite accurate and I believe there are at least 8 of them. Given that the oil level from top to low is one quart [0.95 of a liter] you know that half of the MMI reading is roughly 1/2 a liter. If you are at the low point you should start off by immediately adding AT LEAST half a litre of oil and then verifying on the MMI system. The overall engine must be warm to get an accurate reading. IF you insert 1/2 a liter of oil and observe absolute NO CHANGE in the MMI screen after the engine is warm then potentially you have a fault in the MMIs ability to read your oil level. In this case you should buy a manual dip stick. I argue that once our cars get to 5-6 years old you should buy a manual dip stick anyways after all faulty oil or oil reading equals bye-bye $6k engine.

The next point is why is your oil level dropping from max to low in 8,000Km. I use Motul 8100 Excess in my B8.5 S Line A4 and drive medium to aggressive and really only need top ups (1/5 to 1/4 of a liter) if I am truly pounding on the car.

So the question you have to ask yourself is a) was the right GRADE of oil inserted into the engine meaning 5w40 and b) which brand of oil was used Castrol, Mobil, Motul, Lubro Moly. Some oils are quite a bit better than others even when factoring in that motor oils generally have made a quantum leap when compared to stuff available in the 1990s. Finally driving style: if you are flooring your car at every stop light it will burn more oil, then end.

Once you have evaluated the above you should be in a position to make a strong determination about whether you need an oil consumption test at the dealership level and make a claim.
