Hi Folks, I am looking for any suggestions/advise you may have about this.

I am looking at purchasing an '09 A4 2.0t quattro with very low mileage but it is an American car brought in to Ottawa. I will be doing a test drive on Sat - Oct 16 - and will get a chance to ask more questions to the dealer/salesman then but I have been reading on the forum here about the warrantee issues for US cars brought into Canada and it gives me a bit of concern.

So - firstly, are there any significant differences between the US and Canadian vehicles that I should be aware of? I do know that the daytime running lights had to be installed. What about environmental controls? Other things?

Since this is a low mileage car and would presumably still be under Audi warrantee am I right that this car would need to be serviced in the US if warantee work is needed?

The car is not at an Audi dealer but it is a dealer for another 'significant' brand so I think the dealership can be trusted.

I welcome any thoughts on this car.

Audi factory warranty (4 yrs/80000 km) would apply but the US CPO one cannot be transferred. Since this is at a non-Audi dealer, you should get the balance of the factory warranty plus whatever the current dealer has to offer you.

If you are really concerned, phone Audi Canada with the VIN number and confirm with them what warranties still remain with that vehicle.

I have also asked Audi Canada if the warranty is honored for a car imported from US, and the answer was yes. Even the CPO warranty is honored if it's transferred directly to your name, which is not the case here.

Thanks for the info. I have called a local dealer and confirmed the warranty issues so I am good with that. As far as I can see this car should be the equal of any Canadian vehicle in any other respect so it comes down to enjoying the test drive and making an offer!

I have owned a BMW 3 series in the past but never an Audi so it will be interesting to see how this car compares.
