Default Considering a 09+ A4, Require Advice!

Hello everyone,

I require some much needed advice in my purchase of a used 09+ A4 2.0T. Very skeptical when buying cars from certain people so i will make sure my purchase is from someone who takes care of their cars and not some kid who is a 3rd owner or anything like that.

Coming from a Japanese vehicle (G37x), I am aware of the fact that the A4 wont give me the same reliability of a G37 but I am willing to make that sacrifice if I can get some pointers or tips regarding ownership and maintenance of an A4.

Recently from my own research I have heard about a lot of issues regarding 2009 model and that there were some recalls. I am not aware exactly which recalls these were, do I need to call Audi and get the car im interested in, Vin number to see if the problems have been dealt with?

I also heard there are issues with water pump and people have changed almost two or 3 and they keep failing. Is there any water pump non OEM that is more durable or better?

What are other issues I should really look in to before buying, Should I avoid 2009 model and aim for 2010+ A4 2.0T's?

I really want an A4 because AWD is important for where I live and my previous Infiniti's poor gas mileage didn't really please me, this will be a daily driver, but no more than 10,000km a year will be put on this vehicle.

Audi A4 Quattro 2.0t Tiptronic 2011 | used cars & trucks | Calgary | Kijiji

I have finalize on a vehicle in the next few days, so far its between the 2010 G37x vs this A4 i posted. The A4 drove amazing this one in the advert but I wont have peace of mind with this Audi is my proble because I dont want it to start falling apart. The Current owner of this A4 bought it at 104,000 kms from a 3rd party dealer and is now selling this car at 110,000km. Does it seem fishy? The Car drives great, im a bmw/infiniti guy so hard for me to pin point certain things, hence the inspection.

I am interested in this one which has 2.5 years of Lubrico warranty left on it. I dont know many independent mechanics in Calgary so I dont know where I should have this car inspected. I have called Audi in Royal Oak and they will get back to me monday, 1st of may.

I would really appreciate any feedback, and I hope to become an Audi enthusiast one day. I have asked on Audiworld and Audizine with not even one reply after a week. I need some answers desperately!

Thank you!

HI there, I just looked at your ad and frankly I find it bit over priced that being said I have no Idea what the used car market looks in Calgary.

The 2.5 years of warranty looks good on paper but you have to read the fine prints it usually comes with thing like: Proof of maintenance, Service required or repair required where the car/warranty was bought. So that could be an issue if you dont live near that place.

Now for the car. 108k is good/low for a 2009 car things to look for are. First and foremost the burning oil issue. Make sure that car doesn't sip any oil at all, because it usually goes from bad to undrivable. A quick google search will enlighten you quite a bit on this subject. There's also the carbon deposit on the intake valves to look for and misfires due to faulty injector(s).

There are no recalls per say on the 09-10 that I know of. Theres extended warranty letters that have been sent out to owner regarding oil burning and faulty injectors. I do have to say that the relation you have with the dealer will play a big part on whether your car will qualify or not for those "warranties".

I bought my car has a certified pre-own at the dealer and was lucky enough to find a dealer that actually dealt with problems before selling the car. My car is a 2010 Premium plus A4 185K and doesn't go through cup of oil between oil changes (10k) I drive a fair bit of stop and go due to my work and just had 3 injectors and all the carbon deposit cleaned at the same time. I had to change to Alternator and Starter last summer, but it's not really common. Also at 110k look at the brakes, pads and rotors are probably on their way since it's an auto trans, and its a 1500$ job for front and back. Tires can be found near new for cheap so while it's nice to get the two sets I would put much value on this.

Feel free to ask if you have specific questions. I have researched Audi for a couple of year before I owned one ( now going in my 4th year)

BTW QUATTRO FTW, you'll love the handling on snow and ice (given proper tire).

EDIT: Just reread your post, So you'd be the 4th owner of a 2009 106k audi A4, If you dont see the whole history with bills for that car " STAY AWAY" has I said that shinny warranty will probably be worth s**t. That's probably what the seller just figured out. I looked through Kijiji, and you have better option in my opinion than that car. It seems way over priced.

You can and should have it inspected by a mechanic of your choice who nows Audi's Also look for oil leaks near the rear main seal.

Ask for all receipts. I'd be wary of this car honestly but I might be wrong.
