Default Clutch Click

Brand new S4. After a month of driving the clutch began to click just as I begin to depress it. The faster I push the clutch in, the more pronounced the click. I took it into the dealership and they said it is the clutch switch, and that it is normal. I call BS because it didn't do it for the first month. Any ideas?

IDEAS?? Go back to the dealership..... its not normal. So what the dealership is saying is that all new generation S4s will have a click in the clutch?

I doubt it. Take it to another dealership.

Thanks Mikeh, that's kind of what my thoughts were. I will take it back again for them to look at. I already got in a heated battle with one of the service people regarding this the first time. Made him come out, sit in the car and try for himself so he could understand.

FYI...the other week I pressed the start button and when the stereo turned on the subwooferlet out a drone of bass continuously until I turned the car off. No sound from any other speakers and nothing I could do to stop it other than turn the car off. Next time I started it, everything was fine and it has never happened again.

Lastly, I went to adjust the rear view mirror slightly the other day and the whole think fell off the connector on the windshield. It took a while but I snapped it back on and it seems to be holding.

I am pretty pissed right now cause its a $70k investment and I didn't expect any problems big or small, at least not yet.

You might expect minor things here and there but for sure on a quality car that you spent $70k on you would for one expect superior service and those minor things to be far and few.

When the dealer says "its normal" I take the approach "lets go and sit in another identical car and see if it does the same thing" or how many cars that you sell have the rear view mirror fall off.

Good luck and keep us informed. Please name the dealership and if they are deserving of credit great but if deserving of mentioning poor service the forum members should know about it.

I have always believed that this is a public forum and as such each member is entitled to mention their opinions here. If a dealership or vendor doesn't like what they read than do something about it.

Sorry to ramble on here but I really get going on poor service or when someone in the service business tries to bullshit a customer.

There is a chance it is the switch but more than likely the bushing for the pivot pin is dry or wasn't assembled properly when the clutch pedal was put in. Is there another dealer you can go to in your area? Not all dealers are the same so if there are more Audi dealers where you live give them a shot and see if you get better service. You should not have to explain something twice or have to convince someone to go out the car just to have the problem addressed. The clutch is pretty simple and if there is clicking you are either looking at interference when the pedal is depressed, a problem with the upper pivot, a problem with the rod for clutch master, something with the fulcrum spring, or a switch is binding or not working properly.

All in all the problems you have a pretty minor and hopefully this is the last of them. The mirror probably wasn't secured properly and if was put on properly the second time it should never be an issue again. The stereo is an odd one, sounds like some kind of feed-back through the system or something. Did the stereo turn on with the car or was it turned off when this happened? The stereo is tied into the CAN bus so maybe it was getting odd signals or something.

Here's an update...So I dropped my S4 to the dealer (Crosby Audi) on Friday and they said it would be a couple hours. It's now Wednesday and I hope to have it by the end of the day. I miss it! Here's the list of what's being done.

1. for clutch click they are replacing the master clutch cylinder.

2. for the mirror, they said it wasn't the mirror itself but the base that is laminated to the windshield. So he said the windshield was cracked (I suspect they tried to remove the metal base and damaged the windshield in the process) so had to order new S4 glass and fly it in from Vancouver. He said there is not a process for that piece to be removed, rather they always just replace the whole windshield.

3. the right rear trunk arm is making a slight rubbing noise so I am having that addressed.

4. there is a MMI promotion/recall/upgrade they are doing as well.

That's it for now, any thoughts, feddback?

One thing that is aways good to do if they try to bull$hit you is ask to see another of the same model. If it clicks, it's normal, if it dosen't ask them why one does and the other doesnt.
