a4 b8 2011 humming noise in front end
humming sound comming from front end. it increases with speed and remains there when the car is put in neutral.
lifted front wheels off the ground to see if i could feel play in the bearing, felt nothing.
humming sound doesnt get any louder if i swirve left to right, makes me think it's not a wheel bearing.
turning with wheels fully doesnt make a cracking sound, cant ben the cv joints.
i didnt consider anything going to the rear axels as the sound seems to be comming from front wheels, manual transmission shifts fine have a hard time beliving it could be that
car has only 85 000km...
someone has a better idea?
thanks

Re: a4 b8 2011 humming noise in front end
I have a similar issue. new to this forum. 2009 audi a4 2.0T 6-speed. 93k miles.
it is inconsistent with RPMs, cant hear it at idle or with revving. once I start driving, I hear the humming from the front end. turning doesn't change it, it gets louder, more prominent with speed. Shifting gears doesn't change it.
possible that it could be a belt pulley with worn bearings?

- Check the tires of auto: Inspect the condition of the tires for any uneven wear patterns, bulges, or damage. A worn-out or unevenly worn tire can create a humming noise. Consider rotating the tires or replacing them if necessary.
- Front differential: The front differential is responsible for transferring power to the front wheels. If there is a problem with the differential, such as low or contaminated fluid, it can cause a humming sound. Have a mechanic inspect the front differential and check the fluid levels.
- Check for loose or damaged components: Even though you didn't feel any play in the bearings, it's still worth checking for loose or damaged components in the front suspension, such as control arms, sway bar links, or bushings. These components can contribute to unusual noises when worn or damaged.
- Transmission or clutch: While it may be less likely, it's not entirely ruled out. Have a mechanic inspect the transmission and clutch system to ensure everything is functioning properly.
