A4 30 Years of quattro Edition...

Re: A4 30 Years of quattro Edition...
I saw these special editions and it looks like I'll be going for it. There are good lease deals available now. I can get one for $750/m for 36 m with 24k and about $2000 dod. A few questions for you affecionados.
1. It's personal preference but would you guys prefer the ibis white or the daytona gray?
2. They come with either the Dunlop SP Sport Maxx or the Pirelli PZero Rosso tires. Which are
better? TireRack surveys grade the Dunlops higher.
3. The seats seem to be the same ones that come in the S4. Are these comfortable over long
distances. Say 24 hours nonstop to Florida. Is the suede cooler than leather.
4. The salesman recommended 17" winter rims and tires. That'd mean going from 225/35R 19s
to something like 235/45R 17s. Sound right?
5. Does the manual get somewhat better fuel mileage than the auto in the real world.
A lot of questions from a newbie. Thanks.

- I have the white and I've been told that it was the better of the two choices by about 10 people.
- Not sure. I have the Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT. Loads of grip with 255 on each corner.
- Very comfortable. Set it up correctly and you'll have no problems.
- 225/50/17s are what's recommended by TireRack.
- Totally dependent on the driver, but in theory, should be provided you're shifting in an economical way comparable to the auto. I have the 6spd and economy is good.

Re: A4 30 Years of quattro Edition...
1. Daytona Gray
2. Dunlop
3. Very comfortable, can do 24 hours of Le mans in them
4. Salesman is right on with the 17#
5. Get manual (personal choice for me) besides your spending what for the car and your worried about what the difference might be?
6. Sounds like a great deal for a great car. GET IT
Welcome to the forum BTW and let us know how you made out. Then after getting the car come to one of our meets so we can see it up close.

Re: A4 30 Years of quattro Edition...
I'm also ready to close a deal on a Daytona Grey version of this spec-ed A4. The lease deal is fantastic and rather than going with a set of winter tires - Audi sells them for $2400, or for 17" rims and tires (also $2400), I'm likely going to opt for a set of all-seasons. They sell for only $790 total.
Yeah, I know winters are the best to go with, but I've driven my 2008 A4 with all-seasons here for the past three years and have had absolutely no problem. And there is a bit of a pain having them switched out for the summers each year but in the end its only a 3-year lease.
Anyway, the car is dead sexy in person, and the deep gray of the Daytona color paint, combined with the blacked out grille and window surrounds - and especially the gorgeous titanium rims! - is a great design match.
I'm still considering a G37xS though, and will be making a decision next weekend. The huge performance of the Infiniti is a significant attraction and keeps luring me every time I drive it...

Re: A4 30 Years of quattro Edition...
One of the reasons I stayed away from the G37 is that the G35s and 350Zs have depreciated so much lately. Lots of young guys my age driving them with chrome 20s. I don't think it receives the same appreciation the A4 SpecEd would.

Re: A4 30 Years of quattro Edition...
LOL, yeah I know, but that is my argument for WHY I'm fine with using all-seasons: I've used all-seasons for 15 years and never had a traction issue - and those were all front-wheel drive vehicles. For the past three years with my A4, I've also used all-seasons, but its been better because of quattro.
All-seasons = no-seasons...I know. But in this case its a company vehicle and I don't want to ask to expense $2400 for rims and tires - but I'm alright with going to the till for $800 for all-seasons.
Not the option I'd prefer to take, but the one I will have to take should I go with the 30th Quattro Edition.
Darn its such a sexy car. And good thing, since its looks and presentation are trying overcome 117 hp in my decision-making...lol.

Re: A4 30 Years of quattro Edition...
Uhmmm ... $2,400 isnt a realistic price ! I just picked up a set of 17" allows with Dunlop Wintersport M3's from Tire Rack and spent $1,300. all in. If you look at the cost of swapping out tires on stock rims (easily $100.+ annually), surely most could rationalize spending some coin on winter wheels along with real winter tires, no ?

What rims did you select, if I may ask?

Re: A4 30 Years of quattro Edition...
I'm with stevelev on this one. I have OZ rims with Pirelli winters from tire rack at a lot less than dealer quote. BTW they were mounted balanced and delivered.
