i don't have the break down on mine. I'm still in the break in period too. don't even have 2,000kms on the car yet. but so far i avg about 600kms per tank. guessing around avg of 9-11/100 or so

I disagree Jeanfc, the economy part played a role in the purchase since the economy ratings are part of the package. There are a number of other luxury cars on the market which are able to achieve much higher performance from lower fuel consumption. I have been a long time VW owner and wanted to stay in the family since I was very satisfied with the quality and performance of my VW products. Don't get me wrong I am satisfied with my car but very surprised to get such poor fuel economy and was wondering if I was in the minority or if there is an underling issue with the engine, ECU or a sensor which may be the cause.

Here is why I think there is something wrong with my car.
My car is at the dealership and they gave me an A3 2011.
Here are the rated specs (Notice they are almost identical)

A3 Specs
22 city / 30 hwy => 10.69L/100km City / 7.84L/100Km hwy

A4 Specs
23 city /30 hwy => 10.23L/100km City / 7.84L/100km hwy

I went to the gas station and topped it off. Then drove about 80kms on it and ....... I was not very gentile... I mean, it has DSG.... I stopped at the gas station this morning to fill it up and wanted to see the damage. It only took 9.2L of gas... ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!
That is 11.5L/100km, when i baby my A4 i don't even hit those numbers... I am going to baby this car and see how much i get...

Curious, do you have any mods? How many kms?

Describe babying your car. What RPM do you normally shift? Do you use the shift recommendation?

In my case I look at the instantaneous L/100 Km reading while driving. Normally I try to refrain from quick starts and try not to accelerate too aggressively. I do not have any mods all stock, triptronic Avant now just over 4000 Km. Just filled up with 58.4 L at got 441.3 Km. Still not too good.

Wait until 10,000 km. Most new cars are known to deliver poor fuel economy at first.

My car is stock. No mods. 60,000kms

It's an automatic. I always have the instantanous gas consumption on. I don't go over 20L/100km when I accelerate to the speed I reach then I am very easy on the gas. Always crawl to red lights or stop signs.

Noticed that you're having oil burning issues. Sounds like your engine isn't completely healthy...could be the problem. Air filter clean? Sparks plugs changed? Seafoamed intake?

Air filter should have been cleaned on 55,000km service
Spark Plugs, I am not sure. I've been bringing my car in for all the maintenances. I think they change them at 85,000km
A 60,000km engine shouldn't need seafoam as they opened the engine to do the piston and rings I'm sure they clearned up any carbon build up.
