2010 A4 Oil Consumption

Re: 2010 A4 Oil Consumption
Hey guys,
Here's an update from my last post.
It took a week longer than I thought before the oil light came on again....but then again, I don't drive that much either.
So from the last time the oil was topped up, 121,370 Km, it took 650 Km before the engine oil light came on again.
I have take a picture of the dash showing the mileage with the engine light on and will be getting in touch with the dealers mechanic tomorrow to see what the next course of action will be.
Not sure if you'll had a chance to read the article in the Toronto Star, Wheels section, on Jan.25th 2014. It mentioned the Audi A4 oil consumption problem and disappointed owners.
Will update again later.
Bye for now.

JyDcruz,
How did the test go?
Has the dealer said what they are going to be doing?
I have warranty which I took out when I bought the used car. This warranty, "Autogard", is only available through a used car dealer.
The Used Car dealer is, "Village Luxury Cars Inc", located in Unionville. However, the issue is presently been dealt by the dealer and not the warranty Co, because I brought up this issue with the dealer just over two weeks after buying the car.
I am presently running the Oil consumption test. I have to drive the car 1000 - 1300 km, then take it back to the dealer.
I brought up this issue with the mechanic about this common problem with rings and piston talked about on the internet and he said that my car has the latest parts......Don't know what that means ????
Anyway, lets see what happens after or before the 1000km.

Re: 2010 A4 Oil Consumption
I just turned in my 2011 A-4 Audi as the lease came up -- -- was adding a litre of oil every 1,000 km until last summer -- I had them do an oil consumption test (you are allowed one under the warranty) -- they reported back it was "normal" -- this was a problem apparently up until 2009 according to the technician -- strangely enough the problem went away and I did not need to make an top ups until 5,000 km --- bizarre...

I just purchased my 2010 a4 with 36,500 miles on it.
My oil light came on within a week. Took it into the dealer and they topped off it and said the car sat for a while and needed more oil. I drove 639 miles the like light came on again, now they want to do the oil consumption test 1. I then drove 621 miles light comes on again and take it back in for part 2 of the test. They call me the next day and tell me they need to replace all the pistons. I've only had it a month and 3 times my oil light comes on and at this point I'm angry. I call the sales manager tell him my concerns and he said it should be "fixed" now. I then get a call from the technical service manager to explain what was done and I don't buy it. They said that this car in different temperatures the block likes to expand and contract and they had the "wrong" sized pistons in causing the oil to burn faster. I've read that some get a new block or whole engine replaced is this possible or not in this case? I'm wondering of the 2014 engines are using different blocks and pistons, does anyone know if this is true? Do I have a case with the lemon law or not quite? I haven't even made my first payment and not happy with the car so far. Should I raise hell with the dealership or contact Audi of America? Thanks for any input.

I've been told that this is a common problem with some A4's from 2009 to 2011 and the Audi will not treat it as a recall because it cost's $5000+ for parts & labor and does not make sense doing this on a good motor. However, If Audi does the tests, they will cover the costs....so they say.

Re: 2010 A4 Oil Consumption
Just had my 2009 A4 2T Piston / rings done. Car has over 2K since and hasn't burned oil at all.
I've had 2 oil tests done prior and still needed a qrt every 6-700km.
Get the Piston / rings done.

Re: 2010 A4 Oil Consumption
Hey Guys,
Here's an update.
After a long wait, finally got the Pistons & Rings changed by the used car dealer.
The car had been test driven by the dealers rep and monitored for a day. The next day when I picked up the car the strange thing happened. After I drove the car home after 56 km the fuel light came on....which was fine because I was low of fuel. However, after another 5 km after I exited the highway the oil light came on!!!
I took a quick snapshot with my cell phone as proof and sent it to the mechanic. But here is the strange thing. The car was switched off and left for 3 hours. When I started the car again, no oil light.
Its been two days now and I have been taking the car out for a few test drives and still no oil light.
The oil reading when displayed does not really show a bar indicator between the high and low.
I went shopping, the car was on a slight angle. When I displayed the oil level, it indicted that the car was at a tilt and that the reading may not be accurate.....which is exactly true!
The only thing that comes to mind now is that the ECM somehow remembered previous readings...and is now updating itself.
After I added fuel, the fuel lite went off. Oil light is still off, so I'll continue to monitor.
If anyone has any input, please share.
Thanks.

Re: 2010 A4 Oil Consumption
I've had an 09 and '10 A4 and both had higher then average oil consumption. I'm a little annoyed as well but I think we're over playing it a little bit. If the car needs a litre of $11 oil every 4-6 months is it that big a deal? I look at it that I know there's always clean oil in the car..lol. My 2010 is up in June and I'm thinking of buying it out. I had the consumption test done on it a year ago and they did offer to change the pistons but I haven't had a chance to take it in. Warranty is up in June as well and now I'm worried that if I have them change it and they muck something else up the car will be out of warranty. You guys think I should still get it done?
