Some static might be normal.
In Audiophile sound systems, static is often audible because the system is very sensitive and reproduce the slightest variation in signal. This means all your music pops, but it will also amplify any noise. My Shure earphones do the same thing. I can hear every little activity my iPhone or computer does, even when it's idle. This is not true when I used a 20$ Sony buds.
