picked up my A4 B4 2.0t premium yestersday from Openroad Audi, Burnaby. it comes with B&O sound system...but i notice a bit static noise coming out from the speakers when i mute the system (no matter it was on CD, radio, sat...). The static noise is gone if I turn off the MMI system. I have the surround ON by default, i feel it makes the static noise even more noticiable even driving @~50km/h...just wondering if any one with B8 and B&O sound experience the same thing? Is this Normal?

Turn it down instead... BTW, why would you mute it anyway?

i guess i just used it as a quick turn off....turning down the vol doesn't decrease the static noise at all, since it's mute, I just want to know if this noticable static noise is normal. (not loud, but you can hear it at normal driving position..)

I picked up the same car but in white. B & O has been great for me. Haven't noticed any static noise but I do know what type of noise you are referring to. Sometimes I hear it on other electronics. For instance, when I have my headphones in my laptop and I'm not listening to any music (I do this when applications are loading of course)

I think it has something to do with the system being on. All the electricity and the magnetics pertaining to the sound system are loaded and ready to go when the system is on but no sound is coming out when it's on mute. Hence, the residual sound (static). I will try it out in my car (muting the system that is) and report back to you.

Hope this gets fixed for you though

Exactly! that's what I am referring to...what is your experience, man? Once you muted the audio, no matter what vol/bass/treble settings, you will notice the same static sound (espcially from the tweeters in the front, very obvious from drivers seat)

After digging more into the issue, went to dealer tried different A4s, researching the MMI system, I came to the conclusion that: this noise is due to the analog audio cable connection!

Various A4 B8 users reported such issue, and none of them had Nav option. The difference here is that A4s without Nav option ($3500) doesn't have a MMI high (full MMI system). The MMI high uses MOST databus which is optical fiber cable compared to MMI low which uses CAM databus which analog cables. (basically digital vs analog) The databus is used to connect many electronics in the A4 in a loop...eg. ICE audio amp in the trunk, AMI interface, radio in the centre console, blah blah... and the NOISE we are talking abt is definately from the analog audio connection from the radio/console to amp and to the B&O speakers!!!

You won't hear such noise in a A4 w/ B&O and w/ Nav.

With Nav (MMI high version installed),
- you can also upgrade MMI software on your own since you have DVD-ROM.
- AMI is connected using fiber optical!
- full Bluetooth function such as import contacts into your car...and use SAP bluetooth profile(allow you to use car antenna for Cellphone)
- full SDS voice control including music controls
- ICE audio amp w/ digital interface (you can control more sound settings)
- heard you can view SMS on the screen as well

But w/o Nav (MMI low version installed)
- you get 6 disk changer
- SD card reader
- ICE audio amp w/ analog interface


well..this is what i found out... anyways, i do navigation with my head .. haha...i think i will get used with the B&O noise eventually...


By the way, have you tried pair your cell to the car? can you read your phonebook/missed calls/dialed calls? I was able to do it at the first time...then it failed failed and failed... now i can only use the car BT like a headset ><

Yeah the Telephone feature is kind of wierd. I was able to pair it via bluetooth of course. I was able to make phonecalls and the car was able to pick up my recent cell phone activity. I was never able to pair it up with my phone book however. I think it was good enough to pick up my recent calls. I'm still tinkering around with everything and really trying to get to know the car inside and out. I think the problem lies with compatibility issues same as putting new stuff in a computer or new programs, etc. Sometimes things just don't match up.

Yeah I'm out in Richmond. Funny you mention that. Oddly enough when I went to buy mine it I was initially leaning towards meteor grey as they had no white ones in stock. During the time I bought it Richmond had a special going on for all in stock A4s and also were offering to pay for the first 2 months. I ended up saving bout 4 grand. Anyways, when I was checking if they had any white ones in stock it showed up no-even the one in the show room was not in their computer. So the salesperson checked his records and found that my car (the one in the showroom) had the wrong color code inputted in the computer. The car you saw was indeed mine; it wasn't sold though. They just marked it down wrong and in fact it was sitting there for 2 weeks with a sold sign in it haha. Things worked out well for me I guess. Talk to you soon.
