Not sure if 16" rims will clear the brakes. I think that's the issue you have to look at. If they clear, you are good.

Yup 16" Sport Edition wheels will clear B8 brakes (unless Audi changed them in 2011); however, 205/55 does not maintain the same as OEM specs. Seems to me you're >3% off which isnt recommended ... just sayin'

Firstly, the S-line package contains the exact same brakes as the non-s-line. Secondly, did you try to fit a 16" or did someone tell you you needed a 17" ? I know for a fact that 16"s fit as my mother's B8 (2010 A4) ran 16" wheels with snows without an issue all winter long (2009-2010).

I called the dealership where I purchased the vehicle and they advised that if they were 225's they would have fit. I either purchase 225's for the 16' steel rims that I already own, or purchase 17' steel rims with tires. Is it not recommended to use one size smaller tire for optimum snow traction? Or does that not even matter with Quattro?

Thanks all

Are you sure the steel wheels will fit ? Best to test fit them as they may not clear the brakes.

A narrower contact patch will provide better traction in the slippery stuff (with or without quattro) but the compromise will be that the narrower tire won't handle as well in dry conditions (ie: high speed cornering). For what its worth, I plan to go to a 215/50/17 winter tire even though my summers are 255/35/19's. The issue is that its is best to maintain OEM specs so if you go narrower then you'll need a taller profile to keep the diameter/ circumference the same. I've read that one should stay within 2% of OEM specs
