Upgrade to LED Tail light

I want to upgrade the tail lights on my 09" A4 to OEM LED. Anyone here has any ideas how to convert them??

Cheers

These are not plug and play conversions. To fit NA models wiring harness adapters are required and special coding is needed to make them work without various error messages. There is an extensive thread on a group buy last year and conversion to LED tails on the B8 Audizine forum. You may want to read through this before ordering from ebay. Your dealer will not be able to do this coding.

Thanks but if you look it up on Ebay they state that they are just plug and no error codes . I will look into it as well as go back and talk to the Mech at the dealer I know

I don't claim to be aware of all possible options that might be available, but I've been following this for the past year since I plan to swap my Avant tails. I have yet to read about a successful plug and play kit for the NA B8. There are over 20 pages in the thread, but here's a quote from a recent post. It's up to you of course, but I would be cautious, especially with overseas knock offs.

Just a reminder, none of those kits are for North American use. Also the lead time looks like they may still be working on the kits or with individuals to get things set. I think the biggest issue with those kits are the dongles. As David can attest to there are quirks to some cars because of BCM2 differences. Those modules sometimes don't seem to get the right coding or sequence set for each variance properly, then it's one use only and if you make a mistake or it doesn't work you're stuck, just doesn't always work well even though it is easier than having to code each car individually. Regardless I just want people to be aware, the kits from Kufatec are NOT for North American models. There are some vendors who will sell them for NA cars and get customers really stuck, happens more than people might think, so just a PSA not to grab those. I have had to modify harnesses, produce harnesses and get David linked up with people to save their BCM2's and code them properly to make kits that are sold from Europe to North America even though everyone selling them overseas knows they don't work here out of the box.

Note that those are the OEM "Rest of World" lights. It's possible that the eBay knock offs that he's looking at are plug and play, but seems like no one has tried them yet.

It no longer matters if the dealer is "mod friendly". Every car that is at the dealer for service will be routinely scanned for the ECU mods and if found, a tag will be placed on your VIN at Audi. It's out of the hands or control of the dealer.

I came across this and decided to register on this forum just to tell you that...

#1. You are wrong.
#2. ECU mods can be -
VAG code changes which is what is needed in this case to match coding for the OEM LED tail lights. (This does not void your warranty - The dealer programs your key to open/close your windows this way)

ecu flash "tune" mods that increase performance and take the electronic speed limiter off which most of the time are stealth mods and do not show any difference from a normal vehicle at the dealer during routine scans for CEL errors or logs.

****My father works for Audi and he's very involved in service for audi and has worked for them for many years and this statement is totally untrue. Not sure why you are on here feeding people misinformation and scaring them... Audi does not routinely scan for mods or "tag" your car for no reason.

They can reset your ECU at anytime to factory if they believe something is wrong with the software.

While technically ecu tune mods like the giac or APR flashes do void your warranty they will not "flag" you for an ecu mod unless you tell them your car is chipped or for some reason you make it obvious that your car is majorly modded and you expect/demand them to fix something that is caused by the mod.

Let me clarify my scary and misleading comments.:p
He asked about mod friendly dealers and flagging, which suggests he is talking about engine tuning/flashing the ECU, since there has been much discussion about this recent development on other forum. I should have been more specific.
Audi issued a TSB to dealers in March that advised them the Audi diagnostic system will now auto-detect ECU changes on many current year models, like the B8. It runs in the background and is transparent to the tech. If it finds an ECU flash it will log a TD1 flag for that VIN, which may affect warranty on drive train related issues. There have been numerous reports of this flag having been set by AZ forum members and according to a number of the reports, the dealer cannot control this. Apparently, putting your flash into "stealth mode" will not hide it from the diagnostic scan. You would need to re flash back to stock before going to the dealer for service. If the tech finds other, non-ECU power train mod's, including mod's like cold air intake and even short shifters, he is instructed to manually log the TD1 flag. For these, perhaps a mod friendly dealer would not log the flag.
This TSB only refers to engine tuning and does does not mention routine VAG Com mod's, etc that are often just changes to options that already exist in various modules. I have a VAG Com cable and have done many of these changes.

I gather it's common practise for tech's to plug into the Audi system to check for any updates, TSB's etc for your VIN, even though you may be just getting an oil change.

Perhaps your dad is not up to date on this issue?
