How much for a Demo and is it worth it?

My local dealership is selling their 09 A4 3.2L Demo. The car comes with the Drive Select option and the "listed" asking price is around $3K less than a brand new model (after tax and fees). The car currently has $9,000KM on it.

A couple of questions I would like to get your opinions on:

- Anyone has experience in buying demo cars? Realistically, what is the best price one can expect for a Demo. The $3K diff obviously doesn't seem worth it but I recognize it is just the starting point. I think the dealership wants to charge PDI and all the other fees as well, do you suppose those can be waived? As well, given the mileage, I think the price should be less than invoice. How much lower?

- My other concern is that Demos are generally quite beaten up in terms of how they are treated and broken in. How big/real an issue is it? Could this car have more problems down the road because it wasn't broken in properly?

- Any other issues/concerns I should take into account if I were to pursue this car?

Thanks for all your comments

If the price difference is only $3ks, I would buy a new one.
Demos generally get depreciated about $500 to $600 per month. B8 A4s have only been out for maybe 6 months. Demos are worth buying once they've been on the road for a year or so.
Demos do not qualify for specials; lease rates, finance, or any other special that maybe on at the time.
Also, early launch A4s with DS have currently a cash incentive, so in reality, you're not getting a deal at all. This car should be selling for minimum $6ks less, otherwise it is not worth it. I have one as well and it sells for a lot less than $3k savings.

3k savings isn't that much when you consider the price of a new one IMO. Demo cars are usually beat on pretty hard (hard acceleration and hard stops) so I personally avoid them no matter what the make/model.

That's my thought exactly. I figure even with a 6K diff it is not worth it because of the "beat up" factor.

9kkm is way too much for a demo car. $3k is nothing. skip it. Or you ask more discount and extended warranty.

i would pass too. The savings is just not enough to justify the 9k mileage and the fact that it's a demo car.

I agree with passing on this one because you should get more than 3K off it. I am however in favour of getting a demo as it's covered under warranty and it's the best way to save on a new car. I recently placed a deposit and signed my order on a new 3.2 S-line. Sure enough, two weeks later, a demo popped up on the Calgary lot with 500km on it. It is around what I paid, but it has navigation on it, which I don't. I am a little choked with this.
