Considering 2013 A4 but oil burn issue scares me

I'm considering buying a 2013 A4 quattro with the manual transmission. I've been lurking these forums for a while and the oil burn issue has made me re-consider. I'm really scared of this car's reliability. Any chance the 2013 facelift would also incorporate reliability fixes? Anyone care to share his experience, especially if it is positive? I really liked the car when I went for a test drive at the dealer and they'll be getting just the color and interior I want this week... I know I want it, but my aversion to frequent visits to the dealer service shops makes me really insecure!

Since the 2013 just started to show up and being deliver most owner won't know until later on.

I don't think I saw any details about a fix that has been incorporated for the 2013s. I just know the later cars seems to be better than the earlier cars (2009-2010)

Thanks for the feedback. Went to the dealer yesterday and I hung around the maintenance area for awhile and asked a few customers (2 had 2012s and one had a 2011) waiting for their cars. None of them were even aware of the issue. I guess that was the best survey I could do. Now , I only have to get the dealer to work on his offer... but since I'm renting, I don't think there is much wiggle room for them.

All of the CPMA engine that comes in the 13s don't have the oil burning issue. New oil separator and pistons has been updated.

Same boat as you Basil65. I've been doing a lot of reading on this and it seems there are a Loy of different opinions. I suspect this is the usual case of hearing mostly from the squeaky wheels and that there are plenty who don't experience this problem.

Aside from the obvious of not abusing it, use the recommended services on a timely manner using the correct fluids and you should be fine.

Hey Basil65,
Did you end up picking up on A4? I am on the same boat, considering picking one of these A4s up but worried about the engine oil issue.

Anyone have a 2012 or 2013 model with or without the problems?

No worries, just get the 2012/2013 your not going to have a problem. If you are you are they will fix it.

Plus i would NEVER buy an Audi straight out. I would LEASE then buy.

Check out the numbers on Audi's own site.

2013 Audi A4
2.0 TFSI quattro Premium Tiptronic
MSRP: $45,200.00

Lease /w 20,000kms/yr 808.88$/36months + Residual Value: $25,013.35 Buy Back.
Total = 58035.11$ TOTAL (This is including Quebec's CRAZY high tax rate)

Finance 972.62$/60months = 58357.2

ITS MORE expensive to finance directly. If you lease and it has crazy problems and you get into an accident(s) you don't keep the car and give it back to them. If it runs like a charm, keep it and get the CPO extended warranty at the end of the lease.
Yes you'll have to put 30,000$ at the end of the lease or finance it. If you are going to buy an Audi I'm sure you have the money to put away 200$/month during that 36months your leasing it.

The key is negotiate the buy back...which is usually over inflated.
