2009 A4 - Drive Select

Hey Guys...

Test drove the car with ADS...cool feature...

Is it a must? it is a bit $$$...
How does the car drive without it in your opinions?

Get the sport package instead, you will be driving in Dynamic anyway all the time with the drive select, so why bother... comfort mode and auto are pretty lame...

Sport package will get you better wheels, better steering wheel, better seats and stiffer suspension for less...

And my 0.02$

As my car goes to the dealer pretty often, I have become good buddies with the service manager (who i'm sure just feels sorry for me! =)

I drove a 2009 Audi A4 CVT - and I hated it. I was amazed at how poorly it felt, etc.

He then threw me into a 2009 Audi A4 Quattro with the ADS. Audi says it gives you three cars in one - I say it gives you about 1.5 cars in one...

The thing with ADS in the A4 (at least in my demo), it did not have the "individual" setting. I enjoyed Dynamic Mode, but I didn't want it to throw it into "Sports" Transmission mode. So I was constantly fiddling with it...

Having said that, I did enjoy comfort mode in the city (soft as heck steering), but Dynamic mode was fun. The suspension dampening setting was unnoticeable (maybe because I am confused and it doesn't actually alter suspension).

The steering was very noticeable, although the steering joints squeal....hopefully just a warranty issue...

For me though, I don't see the point of Drive Select. The 2007 Audi A4 (which I have), I believe was perfect for driving dynamics. Very refined and buttoned down on the city, and fun to throw around on police-free roads in the backcountry....

I'd love to drive a S4 or an A4 with Sports Suspension...I'm hoping it'll feel like a B7. The interior of the B8 is disappointingly cheap (my opinion, don't shoot me), but the new TSI engine is absolutely amazing!!

Just my 0.02$

Re: 2009 A4 - Drive Select

Cool...Thanks.

I was looking at buying a 2009 A4...
Stock with options you want is not easy to come by...

So I found 2 cars at 2 different dealers...
- one with Premium, B+O, Tech, ADS (and 2500 km)
- the other Premium, B+O, Tech, wood trim (new)

Tried to make a deal on the used one...and was only offered $3000 for paying cash and the Freight and PDI....So I walked out.

Maybe time to forget the ADS and look at option B

I can always wait a few weeks and go for a 2010..but I hope I can get a decent deal on a 2009....

Thanks again.

you do get a heck of a lot more on the 2010...just a FYI...

Having said that, both has B+O, which means you're going to come by my place and I get to spend many nights listening to music in it OK? :)

Jealous...hehe

I have ADS and I love it. I switch around the settings all the time as I go from city driving to highway, etc. And the suspension damping is very noticeable to me, especially in Toronto streets. I do wish for the seats and steering wheel in the sports package though. And obviously I can't have my car as low as I'd like - although with the ADS's 20mm drop, it's not bad. If I have to do it again, I might skip ADS, get the sports package and a set of rims with that money instead. Or the Nav system, that completes the interior.

The sport steering wheel is SOOOOOOOOOOO much better than that ugly 4 spoke trucker wheel... get the sports package AND the ADS...if you're rich.

Is it any thicker, or just three-spoked? I'm kinda thinking of getting a flat-bottomed TT S-Line wheel.
