Unitronic Stage 1+ and 93 Octane

Unitronic Stage 1+ and 93 Octane
So I made the leap and got the guys at Tunedub to put the Unitronic Stage 1+ on the A4 Avant. What a difference in the performance! Wasn't used to it and the car went slightly squirrelly on dry pavement when I punched it from a standstill when the turbo really kicked in.
Since Unitronic 1+ runs on 93 octane, I asked George at Tunedub about that and he said that winter gas is fine for the higher octane. Read some articles about winter gas as I never heard about it and it does seem true that the winter formulation has a higher octane level. The other thing he mentioned is that Shell 91 is basically 94. Has anyone have any experience or know anything about this?

Re: Unitronic Stage 1+ and 93 Octane
Don't know one or other but here's my 2c worth. Canada is very heavily regulated so I doubt that Shell 91 is actually 94; I suspect there's some standard that needs to be met and no company adjust the octane on an ongoing basis and then not chatge to recover some of their cost. What many folks will say is that Shell with their Nitrogen additive works better than fuels from other companies for their Audi's - again no real proof around.
What is true is that our ECU will retard timing if it senses knocking. Even with a chip, I believe this would still apply so your 93 tune will adjust slightly for use of 91.

I'm not a fan of Husky/Mohawk's ethanol blend mainly due to ethical reasons, but is there any real performance issues with the gas/ethanol blend in Audi's?
