Suddenly my winows don't work.....
Took my car in for an e-test. The shop plugged into the OBD2 port rather than using a pick up coil for RPM's. Window no longer functions and neither does sun roof, door locks from the door switch or rear hatch. No fuses are blown. What's going on ?

Sorry, that should have been windows. So much for 5 AM insomnia......
The Etest place was a stand alone joint, not the dealer so I am not sure WTF they did exactly other than plug in to the OBD port to read RPMs instead of using an inductive PU for the ignition.
At this point, they are denying any responsibility (of course) but they had to put the window down to route the OBD cable so it stands to reason that it worked before they plugged in.
I am somewhat familliar with OBD2 just not the VAG flavour and since this is a new car (to me) I am not too impressed with the technology if this is going to happen on something as simple as a generic OBD being plugged in.....

Re: Suddenly my winows don't work.....
I have connected VAG-COM hundreds of times without causing this type of issue.
Recommend to scan all your vehicle on-board modules including 09 - Central Electrics / 46 - Central Convenience / etc with a real VAG Scanner. Generic OBD scanner can only read basic engine DTC's and cannot read any of the other modules that you need to get data from.
As 1move suggests, record the ouput of a full VAG scan so that you have a copy of each module software coding value and go from there.

To re-iterate; The car had a generic OBD tester plugged in not a VAG scanner. The windows and a bunch of other related functions stopped working. My question is why?
This shouldn't happen unless the car has a defect somewhere in the CAN bus or the OBD scanner fried something but what? I will take it in for a VAG scan tomorrow and hope for the best.

Thanks for the advice but you did not read the post carefully enough.

Agreed with 1move as unfortunately we cannot tell you over the Internet what has failed in your car after e-test folks connected their generic scanner. You need a proper VAG Scan to know more of your current vehicle issue. Ideally you want a complete VAG Scan before things are broken so that you have record of all your modules coding values etc for your future reference. Look forward to hearing the results of your pending scan. Again you are going to be most interested in the results of module 9 and / or 46 for your windows operations etc.

Re: Suddenly my winows don't work.....
I took it into the indie shop associated with the used dealer where I bought it. Spoke with the mechanic as he was starting the scan and he said there was an intermittent fault code associated with the convenience module but it would take about 30 minutes to do the complete scan. I went away and came back.
When I got back, the story had changed to " I didn't find a fault" from the mechanic which mophed into "Oh , the system went into limp home mode, so we cleared the fault, and now it's all good" from the service adviser who also said they see different codes showing up all the time with different readers. Great. I asked if I should maybe buy a VAG interface and carry my laptop all the time, just in case and the response was "maybe........" This isn't exactly giving me a lot of confidence in the car.
In any case, my wife went by to pick up the car after work. The same problem occurred with the locks, again. This time the dealership owner intervened, since it is under the 30 day warranty, so the car is going to the Audi dealer for repair. This is crazy making.
BTW, the E-test shop has a rather bad reputation for crap service and scamming, which I found out about after the fact. Hind sight being 20-20, I never would have gone there if I had known, yada-yada.....
