Default So that's where my oil is going.....

Well it's been ~7000km since I bought my car. Just under 2L of oil later I think I see where it's all gone...

Once in a while I like to give it a shot of gas on the off ramps and 3rd gear I get it up to about 100km or so shift and poof... Nice cloud out the ***. I've noticed this a few times but always thought I was just lifting up some dirt or something, but I don't think that's the case.

One time I noticed it I dropped the gear again, revved it out and didn't notice a puff the second time. I'm wondering if there is oil building up or something and revving it out cleans it up. Still under warranty but has any one else run into something similar?

You should not be loosing any oil. 2l per 7000 km is not acceptable unless you overfilled in the first place than some oil will be burned. It is not a steady burn but rather a series of puffs.

Is your oil too thin? I use 15W40 year round.

I'm using the 5w40 castrol stuff out of the Audi dealership to keep it topped up between service intervals. Just went in and bought a case hehe.

It looks good. Did you check either there is a leak from the oil filter?
The mechanics do not tighten them well beacause it could be hard to replace them next time.

Using that much oil is not normal. You should not be seeing a puff of black from the exhaust in your mirror. Your car is still under warranty and you should get it checked out. Don't be satisfied until the problem is fixed. As for type of oil please see the following thread which has Audi TSB info.

Please let us know what the dealer says about the oil .... keep us informed.

now that's a lot of oil needing to be added... mine needs 1ltr about every 9km but i usually try and get my oil changed around 9km because i drive it a bit rough. i do get a small amount of black smoke when i really punch it because the APR 2+ tune and it turns a little rich.

I've been using ams oil Euro formula.. I don't see it on the approved list but on the bottle it says audi.

Should I be using another oil. AMS oil gets so many good reviews.

I have noticed that after 5000-6000 km after oil change that my low oil light comes on. How much of an oil loss is that??

AMS Oil is super popular with the offroad crowd. Snowmobile/Dirtbikes and such. Supposed to be one of the better oils out there.

Low oil light coming on seems to be about 1L of oil. That's not bad compared to me, I already went through 2. Hehe

No leaks any where that are visible, other than the cloud of smoke I leave when I hit the gas hard.

just wondering how many km's can u drive with the low oil light on?

I would think 50km no problem considering if it's only 1 liter loss there is still 5 liters pumping.

You guys are out of this world.
If there is anything flashing about oil you can not drive at all.
In this case you have metal touching metal and it seems fine at first.
Later it will give you grief.
Change oil and filter to regular castrol and see what happens.

One small claims court case from Calgary.
The guy run his engine out of oil and lost compression in cylinders. Audi refused to replace the engine.
The plaintiff argued that Audi is known to make oil starved engines. It did not help.
