Default Rotor Replacement

My car is at 40000Km 2006 A4, and it seems like i need to replace the rotors. Is it normal at the 40K to replace the rotors - the reason is theres a little shake/vibration when I break at high speed?

How much does it cost and How long does the labor take? AUDI dealer charges 100/hr for labor + parts. Can I go somewhere cheaper? = Can I trust any audi mechanic other than the ones at the dealer for rotor replacement ?

Rotor replacement is a relatively simple job: I've replaced rotors on my family's B5 A4 and Allroad by myself just fine. I'd say it'd probably take 1.1-5 hours to do one axle in the shop.

It's impossible to say when it is "normal" to have to replace rotors because of vibration: this is a symptom of either a warped rotor or that there's brake material caked unevenly on the rotor, neither is really supposed to happen. Before you fork out the a few hundred dollars for new rotors, maybe you should try re-bedding in your pads, i.e., do a few ~90-30 hard stops after doing a few 70-30 medium stops to warm up the pads. If the vibrations is due to the latter, the bedding in could eliminate them.

It is actually better to go to an independent shop than a dealer for any maintenance. Reason being all dealers are flat rate where as independent shops are hourly (referring to employee wages), which means a mechanic at an independent shop will take the full allotted time to complete the work and a mechanic at a dealer will skip steps to push the job out as fast as possible.

I am looking at replacing the complete set, so all rotors, pads, on all wheels it comes out to about $600 from tirerack.com for aftermarket stuff and for OEM $400 the dealer wants $890 for OEM. When you are setting in your brakes MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO NOT INGAGE THE ABS MODULE!!!!
