I like Blitzkrieg, I have taken my car there before. It is just not convenient to get out there. I would have to take a half day off of work for stupid headlights. I will call the other shops see. Richmond might work.

I am actually looking to do this also sometime this week. My a4 has the fog lights build into the headlights so i have three sections, low beams on the left, fog light on the center bottom and the highbeam on top right. What kit do i need to get all this working, any ideas?

I search for HID kits on eBay then searched the forums to see which were the best quality. I bought an mtec kit.

I did the HID install today. No shops around town really want to do this. I finally found some great do it yourself information so I decided to give it a try.

I started with the driver side headlight and found the required bolts. You do need a really thin and long torx screw driver. Thankfully the torx screws came out easy enough.

This video REALLY helps with disconnecting the harness. It is easy but if you don't know how it is very frustrating.

The Passenger side headlight was a little more complicated since you have to remove the air intake. Not much more difficult. Again the screws are hard to get at but not bad.

Drilling the hole in the headlight cover was easy but I am pretty worried about potential moisture. I added silicon around the hole I made just to be safe.

Placing the Ballasts was the toughest part. I will need help in the future with a good placement. Right now I have a combination of velcro and zip ties! The driver side one looks ok but the passenger one will need to be more secure. I WISH they fit underneath the headlights because there is the space for them but the wires connectioners wouldn't fit.

Just drove around town and everything seems fine. I will be checking on them regularly for the next two weeks.

I installed the MTEC AUDI A4 HID Conversion Kit 6000K.

Hi, Did you have any errors after installing the kit ? I've just installed mine (same MTEC made for A4 B6) yesterday and the ESP light comes on, the brake light is flashing, and the speedometer needle is not working. I have to turn off the engine and restart it for these errors to go away.

you need to relocate ballasts to a different spot.

This is what I believe is the problem is...

This is completely unrelated but it may be the reason for the problem. I have had alot of electrical issues with my motorcycle so I am VERY familiar with voltage requirements while idling, running, addition of accessories, etc. So I applied that knowledge to the problem with 3rd party HID lights on my Audi.

Here is what I think the problem is.

Everytime you start the car up a certain amount of voltage is required to get everything going. With standard Halogen lights they require the same amount of power all the time. You turn them on and its a steady draw. However with HID lighting it is different. They require much more voltage to 'ignite' but when they are ignited and warmed up their voltage is actually lower than standard halogen lights.

So when you start the car and flip on the HIDs right away this is too much of a voltage requirement and the computer thinks something is wrong and we get error issues. Next time you start the car DON'T turn on the headlights right away. Wait until you are moving and you have the car at 2000rpm to 3000rpm. The cars alternator (stator?) will create more useable electricity which the HIDs can ignite without any problems.

This is how I always turn on my HIDs and I NEVER get errors.

Again... This explanation and solution could be TOTALLY wrong but it works for me.

I woulnd't mind hooking up a voltmeter to my car so I can keep an eye on things. However I have no idea where the best before and after accessory point would be to hook up a voltmeter on my Audi. I have one on my motorcycle and it has let me know when I have potential voltage related issues before they become a major problem.

I just re-read my post November 7th...

Since the install I have not moved my ballasts at all. They are pretty much unsecured... but the connections on this kit are very high quality so I don't worry about it.

I also did get a little moisture in my headlights for the first month but after that it cleared right up! Not a drop since!

Wish I could say the same for my tail lights...

and if anyone else is contemplating buying HIDs. DONT BUY anything higher than 5000K. I have 6000K and honestly the brightness is a little dissappointing. Stick with 4000K-5000K. You still get the blue hue and the excellent visibility.

There is a reason why the engineers at BMW, Audi, Mercedes, etc choose the 4300K level. It's perfect.

so are you still having the issues though?

I have halogen headlights converted to 5000k DDM HID's have never had this problem.

and to your comment about dont buy anything higher then 5k I think you are quite right.

But in my opinon 5000k is perfect. You are at perfect white. Stock 4300 still have a bit of yellow in them but at 5000k you are at pure white and you dont lose the light output you start to when you hit 6000k.
