I just put on a Compustar into my B5 this weekend. Two way paging, turbo timer, autostart, 1/2 mile range.

It isn't too much of a bitch if you get the wiring diagram for your car. Since mine is a crossover year, every single diagram I had didn't have the right colours. I had to trace each wire with a multimeter, so yes, mine was a bitch.

In terms of the immobilizer, you just need to get a bypass ($25 off fleabay) and a blank key with a transponder chip. I'm pretty sure the B7's need to be programmed through VAS (dealer scan tool) and can't do it using VAG-COM.

Here's a link of what you need.

I asked my local Audi Dealer about it and they said its not recommended as it can interfere with the sophisticated electronic system of the car

but i see the some people here have it. For those who have this can you please shed some light on this.
Thanks

It is doable but the installer needs to make sure that what needs to be alive at start up, is alive. The other issue is that the system must go to sleep at shut down or suffer a battery drain.

As for your case, you need a blank transponder to be adapted into the immobilizer. Vag-Com does that if you know the PIN. The transponder is located in such a position that will not interfere with the original key when inserted. In other words, the inserted key takes the "hidden" transponder off line. There are other systems available that will use CAN messaging to "fool" the system into believing there is a transponder. That system is increasingly sophisticated and requires more money but is more "plug and play"

For that type of CAN system and an MED9 FSI Engine Management System, CAN installs are the way to go.
