Purchasing an A4 from the South
Hi Everyone,
I am a newbie on the forum looking for some general information. I am hoping to become an Audi owner in the near future via an international purchase. I have been doing research for a while now and understand the general steps required. However, I would appreciate first-hand information from an individual who has recently gone through the process.
I am looking at purchasing a 2006 A4. I am currently debating on whether the S-Line package is worth the additional cost or whether I should save my money and invest in a chip or something of that nature in the future.
I have been unable to really find a lot of information regarding the modification issues. I understand that the required modifications are: day-time running lights, the KM Odometer sticker, and another French sticker of some sort. I have read mixed things about these modifications (mainly daytime running lights). I have read the running light issue can be resolved at Canadian Tire at a minimal cost and also that there is rewiring required from the dealer and big $$. I spoke with Audi Canada and they don't require that you do the modifications through an authorized dealer to continue to be fully covered under their warranty. Any thoughts or information would be great.
Any and all information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

Re: Purchasing an A4 from the South
My car was imported from NJ. The only mod done for my car was DRLs. Many US cars (mine included) have a switch near the headlight which allows you to turn on/off the DRLs as you wish. If the car you are purchasing has that switch turn it to the 1 position, see if the DRLs light up and get it certified like that. That way you don’t even have to do any "mods" for import.
If you are thinking of modding the exterior of your A4 go with the S-Line. If you want to do performance mods also go with the 2.0T engine vice the V6 3.2L.
Call Audi of North America and give them your A4s VIN# If you want to know the options and warranty info. Dealers (private) may lie.

Ahhhh....that makes me feel so much better. I just got my 2008 A4 from the US and after getting my windows tinted I have experienced some weird things. Nice to hear first hand from someone about the US warranty. I was hesitant to take it to the dealership. I think I might now.

But when I went to some dealers that import from the states, they said it does not come with warranty.

i.e. If you traveled to the states with your factory warranted Canadian bought Audi, and it happened to break down in the States, all you have to do is call the CANADIAN road side assistance number. If you Audi was a US bought, call the US number.

Ask them to give that to you in writing, and send it to Audi of North America. No dealership in North America should deny warranty work on your factory warranty Audi. Your warranty is covered through out Canada and the USA.
