Question Oil Consumption A4 FSI engine

Hi There,
not sure how things work since I just joined here.
But my wife got an A4 2007 2.0t FSI and its consuming oil about 1l/1000km. its on 140.000km. I read on several places about law suit and things with piston and ring replacement. is there any chance Audi will pay something?
As so far my garage had the turbo replaced 3 times and now they did some other tests and found out that the engine is compressing in to the oilpan. (this should mean the rings are stuck)
All the rest should be ok the have looked at all the PCV system and all ok. the last 2 turbos been defective from company (Borg Warner) and the 3rd one i am not sure if its good as the last liter of oil vanished after 740km. But the Garage says its the engine this time and needs to be fixed. they gave me 3 options

-New short block from audi 6000$ +900$time plus tax

-Rebuild 4380$ plus tax (but i guess this price is not more good since the thought they could bore the cylinders and oversize the pistons. But audi don't sell oversize pistons)

-Used 155k 4380$ plus tax ( 1y/20k warranty on engine and labor 60$/h)

Also how high would be the chance that if i would pay the repair to only change the piston and rings, that the consumption will stop and my wife could drive her car happily for the next 100.000km?

Thanks a lot for and way points someone could give me

My car i has the same model year as yours, also 2.0 and suffered excessive oil consumption. I had engine rebuild for 3400 tax in and the problem is gone. They had to replace piston rings the recall only affects cars made between 2009 and 2011 i think. I am in toronto and i can recommend the shop that did the rebuild to you.

Hi,
Thanks for sharing.
So they replaced only the piston rings or piston as well? I just got of the phone with my garage and was thinking to only clean up the existing pistons and piston rings and hope to get same mileage as it has on it now.

Piston rings have to ve replaced, they were worn and thus leave gaps to allow oil to pass through. Pistons, depending on the condition of them, can be reused. Mine were coated with carbon and other gunk from burning oil, but my shop salvaged them by giving them a proper clean job. Cleaning the rings will do no good.
