Default Looking to buy a 2006 A4 2.0T... Advice?

Hi there folks.

This is my first post here and I was hoping to pick some of your brains about this car...

My current car is an aging asian make with transmission troubles. To be fair, I have been hard on it. It has seen a few race tracks in its 10 years.

I am now looking for a good 4 door that is fun to drive. Up till now I hae been looking at the WRX. But now I have come across a car that looks pretty nice IMHO. It is a 2006 AUDI A4 Quatro Sport Premium. The car is mint inside and out and has been used as a highwy commuter. The mileage is the only drawback. This car has over 160000 km on it. Now because it is a newer car and if it has been looked after, should I be terribly concerned?

I have heard that these cars can go a very long time if it is maintained well. I am technically inclined and have serviced my current cars for many years now.

Any tips or advice for an Audi noob?

160K is crazy for a 2006 car regardless of model. I have heard the parts are really expensive so you might have a problem there. The 2.0T engine on the B7 (MY 2006-200 doesn't have the same engine sludging problems as the previous model but I've never seen it pushed to 160K KM so you are in unknown territory.

Anything can last long if maintained well. I wouldn't say Audi is on the top of reliability list though. They are on the lower end but are getting better.

How much is he asking for and are you getting the 2.0T or the 3.2?

Fun factor:
1. has good torque which makes it fun to drive.
2. good on gas.
3. you can get it chipped easily if you have the 2.0T
4. AWD is great in the winter.

Bad
1. Very loud engine. Sounds like a diesel engine.
2. Be prepared to be laughed at by your friends as it vibrates/rattles like crazy, especially at the stop lights. 2.0TFSI engine! A Pontiac Sunfire idles smoother.
3. No room in the back, it's basically a german honda civic.
4. Not fast. More peppy. Middle of the road when compared to competitors.
5. Ugly interior as it hasn't changed since 2002 so it's pretty outdated.

I have a 07 A4 2.0Q so this is my observations so far.

I would say stay away from the 160k....unless you have all maintenance records. As far as aphextwin said interior is "old" I like it its contemporary and smooth none of that bubbly ****. Thats the thing with Audis if you look at a 1997 Audi 12 years old now and it competes in styling with a lot of cars on the road. Their looks do not get old.

I would have the say audi probably has the best interiors of any car, even if you look back at the older audi 90 the interior was uncomparable to any car in its class. My 2001 interior is nothing compared to the interiors in the 2009 audis but when i compare it to all the newer cars my friends have my interior feels, looks, and is more practical then most of the 2006 japs or american cars. But thats just my 2 cents.

Hard to say, cost would be a major factor in the decision.

160k is huge mileage, most vehicles start needing major components replaced around then, so I would expect large and frequent repair bills.

You'll also have a much lower resale value.

I personally search for the lowest mileage car available for my budget.

Can't speak to WRX vs A4, but I'm really happy with my recent A4 purchase (interior included).
