How to determine car starter model
Hey Guys,
I bought a used 2006 A4 about a month ago. It came only with 1 regular key and 1 emergency plastic key. The lot I bought it from did not have anything else.
So I was cleaning my car and had the hood up and noticed a sticker that said that this car was equipped with a remote starter. I also have what seems to be an "extra" wire coming into the engine compartment. I asked a friend who is not a mechanic but knows their way around cards to take a look and they said that it looks like I have a starter.
I called the lot where I bought it, they have no idea.
I KNOW that I dont have a remote for it...so how can I easily find out what model it is???
Thanks for your help!

Re: How to determine car starter model
You really have little choice but to trace the wiring back to the control unit and see who makes it unless you can find some documentation. If you bought it from a dealer you can usually ask the previous owner where they had it installed if the car was traded into them. Many dealers buy cars from auctions or other dealers so it can be hard to track down an owner at times. Once you find the control unit you should be able to track down the model and see if you can get remotes for it. Some people are really bad at wiring so I would also inspect how it is was interfaced into your car. If you find crappy butt connectors then you should consider cleaning it up because many of the cheap connectors corrode really easy and cause you problems down the road.
