Fogs as Day Time Running Lights

Does anyone run their fogs as DRL's instead of the halogens? Any advantages, reasons etc? Can vag-com make it so that the fogs are DRL's instead of the halogens rather than in addition to?

Thanks

check the DIY fog light/city light thread on audizine

you can't do it via vag, you gotta splice one wire and connect it, takes 5 mins max

hummm....all the audi a4's i see here in ontario, as well as mine all use the fog lights as the DRL's. If i want the headlights on i have to turn them on.

Im pretty sure it is vag-com that programs your DRL's. Needs to be changed to the "canadian" setting if im not mistaken. Then your fog lights will be on all the time.

Well it should already be set to Canadian. It was a demo from a dealer in Ontario that was transfered to a dealer here in BC where I bought it. When I start the car the DRL's come on, but it is the inside headlights - think they are halogens (outside are the xenons). The fogs only come on if switched to fogs.

All of the audis I see here have fogs as DRL's. Does anyone know if this is a specific change to 08 models.

Re: Fogs as Day Time Running Lights

B5 and B6 used the fog lights as DRL's. B7 uses the the specific daytime running lights in the headlamps. They the bulbs in the B7 DRL's use much less power and therefore are better for your gas mileage than using the fog lights as DRL's. The LED DRL's in B8 models will use even less power and provide even brighter light.

If you are dead set on lowering your gas mileage and running your fogs lights as DRL's, here is the link evilgabbie is talking about:

5 Minute DIY CityLight w/Fog Mod (Props to "FatAuto" on AW)... - The Audizine Forums

P.S. If you follow the post on Audizine you may notice that you will want to find someone with a VAG-COM to code the lighting to allow the feature to be used in the city/parking light position.

Perfect, thanks. I was not dead set on the fog route (although I do prefer the look) just couldn't figure out why mine were different. I guess I haven't come across another 08 yet.
