Smile E-CODE vs NA Projector Cutt Off

Hello, I own an A4 B7 (US MODEL) with Bi-xenon. My Qusetions are:

1.Does my A4 have an E-CODE projector?

2.Why dont I seen any Purple/Deep Blue flicker from my headlight when going over pot wholes, like I see on all BMWs?

3. What must I do to get that effect?

Previously I purchased a set of E-CODE FK projector headlights for my VW Jetta MK5 and it had that colour flicker even with helogen bulbs.

Thank you in advance

You're car has that effect from the projectors but only when the cutoff passes your eye level and from a distance. You wont see it when you look at the lights standing in front of your car. The projector HID setup in a BMW is not much different than in the Audi. Projectors for every car are of the same basic design and all cars have 4300k HID bulbs, they are the only bulbs that comes in cars as OEM that are legal. Some people think BMW's are 6000k etc. but it's not true, all HID in every car ever sold is 4300k. The difference is the slight difference in the projectors between models.

Your A4 has a north American projector which is actually better than an E-Code projector for light output. E-code are dimmer and have a stupid display pattern. If you want e-code lights for the look, swap out the projector from your NA projector into the E-Code body cause the projectors cut off is so much better.

If you want "more" of the effect google "projector color mod". Basically they alter the projector with some shims just slightly and it makes the cutoff line a lot larger and have more blue/purple in it so when it has a larger area when it crosses your eye to give that funny color from distance.

Lightbulb Re: E-CODE vs NA Projector Cutt Off

My 03 TT had HID headlamps. I bought a set of PIAA HID bulbs and the extra power gave it more of a purple hue. The lights were definitely brighter as well.

"Extra power" as in higher wattage? If so does it work with a stock ballast?

Higher Kelvin rating. 6600K versus your stock 3800K. They are plug and play. You need the D2S bulbs. Too bad I gave mine away already!

Auto leveling sensor is only present in cars equipped with HID headlights, so if your 04 doesn't have HID's, you won't have the sensor.

I myself find that the e-code beam pattern directs more light higher on the passenger side for illuminating road signs, and I cannot say I notice a lesser light output. Otherwise I agree with everything you've said.

Yeah here is the diff..

Problem is most cheap e-codes are not a really well made projector so you get a lot of light shining really high off the passenger side of the car. When you drive by cars and houses and stuff you can see the light going up quite high especially with HID lights. I did a lot of work to convert my Projectors on my Jetta from E-code to an NA pattern.. See that attached pic as well. After the modification it was so much better.

The last pic you see of the beam pattern on my garage wall was after the mod. Before the light would arc up so high on the wall it was blinding everything on the side of the road and lighting up the sides of bridges and stuff. It sucked.

Interesting that there's no upper horizontal cutoff on your jetta. My B6 ecodes have one, so that the beam pattern's more like _/¯ while NA is _ı־־.
