Check Engine Light

Re: Check Engine Light
With regard to the check engine light coming on and extinguishing after a period.
I spoke with a dealership service manager and he indicated that any variation of the engine check parameters that undergoes a change outside of the tolerances will ignite the check engine light.
The system will continue to check the condition that caused the check engine light to ignite and if it finds that the issue has recitified itself, ie gas tank pressure, it will go out after 3-4 cold engine starts or 20-25 ignition starts.
I too have experienced the gas cap "not sealing" properly and get the check engine light, which after the noted period goes out, drives me crazy and I have to look into the issue further.
I will have to get a vag-com cable, but not too sure which brand, if any to purchase and where.

Re: Check Engine Light
Has anyone replaced their air filter with a K&N brand (air box replacement filter) and experienced an issue with the check engine light igniting.
I just realized that my check engine light started to play up after the installation of the K&N air filter, although it maybe a just a fluke.
I did talk to two Audi service managers, at different locations, and one thought that the air filter (pre oiled) may have bleed off some oil which came in contact with one of the mass flow sensors. I think this is a long shot (the other service manager didn't think this would be a cause).
Anyone else replaced the air filter with a K&N and experienced any issues with Check Engine Light?
Thanks for the input.

3 month delay since installing though, unless this how long it takes for oil to bleed off, I think it's a coincidence.

Re: Check Engine Light
My light did not ignite until I completed approx 800kms driving back from Miami.
I'm going to switch back to the stock air filter and see if the issue clears itself once and for all.
I will let you know.

Re: Check Engine Light
My engine light came on but looks different than the one in the manual. This one has no lightning bolt icon through it, just the engine icon. The car doesn't seem to run any differently. I've got maintenance due in about 900km. Could that be what the light indicates? I've checked the gas cap and filled up the tank. Still there. Any ideas. It's a 2002 3.0
Thanks.
Thanks.

Strange noise only in first gear?
I just bought this car a week and a half ago(2004 A4 6spd),it has been sitting in my garage until today when I finally got it licensed and on the road, I took it for a spin around the block and noticed that at every start I would hear a noise (almost like the sound of the wheel on wheel of fortune) while taking off in first gear only, as soon as I shift into second gear the noise would dissapear. I test drove the car twice but never noticed this noise-probably because I had all the windows rolled up and it was less noticeable. From what I have read it sounds like it may be a damaged tooth on the first gear???
Has anyone else encountered this problem? any ideas on how much this will cost to repair?
Should I go after the guy that sold me the car to help me out with the repair bill, he obviously knew of this problem when he sold me the car......

Re: Check Engine Light
my check engine light came on and I tightened the gas cap and it went away the first time.
it recently came back on and I tightened the gas cap again but it hasn't gone away yet. I did put in some cheaper gas, could this be an issue?
