I recently got an used 2006 audi a4 at 146km. I am the second owner of the car would it be cover under warranty if i go in to change my cam follower and it was faulty?

I was told by a guy at precision tuning (a shop) to go into audi and have it replace as the extended warranty is till 160km. He said if your cam follower is faulty they will replace for free as it is a silent recall. If it is not bad, i would just pay for the service and piece of mind that i had it replaced before it gets bad. Could this be true? Because if not i rather do it else where for cheaper price than the stealership.

Might as well check with the dealer; You are probably covered by the extended warranty but only Audi can confirm.

My 2008 isn't covered by the warranty, so I paid the the dealer to change it anyway. The link following has pictures of the follower they removed - doesn't look bad to me at all. Had to include the penny since Canada doesn't make them anymore

Link to pics of my cam follower after 80,000km

How much did you pay the dealer to change it? because they would not give me a quote over the phone. I am bring my car in for two recall items, so i probably go ahead and have them do the cam follower as wel. Just wanted to know the price so when i asked them they are not going to rip me off or anything.

Should be half an hour to an hour of labour plus the part. So depending what their hourly rate is anywhere from $120 to $200. If you do it yourself its about 30 minutes and the cost of the part.

My dealer charged an hour of labour and the parts cost - worked out to around $220. I wasn't comfortable removing HP fuel lines etc. myself. Anyway based on the state of the follower removed, I now have full piece of mind and don't plan on inspecting it again in the future.

This failed for me at about 115000km along with the cylinder head. they replaced everything without charging me a cent... but I've been complaining about a multitude of other issues so maybe that's why they didn't charge for even the diag.
