Default B7 Dealer checking oil and then...Voila

Hello,

I bought my car this February, its a white B7 2.0T 2008 A4.

The car is amazing and I love driving it everyday. Before buying the car I read about the oil burning thing. So I expected my car to burn oil. The car had 49K when I bought it. But it burned oil a lot. Like more than what I expected.

Also the gas consumption was more than I expected. Sometimes it goes from 35 to 40 L/100km when I am on idle. I called Audi and they told me its normal. When I called the service department and told them about the oil issue they told me its ok and normal. And one of the technicians told me read the manual in a very impolite way and another told me "bring the car back I will buy it..."

Last week I complained about using 2quarts of oil in about 1000K and the girl over the phone, after trying to convince me that its normal, agreed to make an oil check.

I brought the car for an oil change and for the oil check, and they told me to bring it in again before hitting 2000k as part of the second test for the oil. So I did bring it in today after about 1100K from the oil change.

And guess what? They called me and told me that there is something wrong with the engine and they have to take the engine off and check what's wrong. I am happy that they agreed that there is indeed something wrong but I am very worried since I want to keep the car for a long time. I'm glad that I still have the factory warranty and on top of that it's certified.

I just wanted to share the story with the forum.

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks for sharing your adventure. Its great that you persisted and eventually got a result. The dealerships can be difficult to deal with and some have the arrogant attitude.

that really does suck for sure! I'm glad you didn't back down and just take it. for me i need to add 1 liter every 8,000kms... usually i get oil changed every 9,000-10,000 so i just top it off.
hope they find the issue and get you looked after.
make sure to let us know what the Stealship found and how the rest of the experience went.

ps. hope they give you a loaner as well.

Hello,

They did give me a loaner. A3. I am sorry, but it sucks. better than nothin though.

My worries is I wanna keep the car for a long time. I called the dealership yesterday and they mentioned that they havent done anything yet. They will remove the engine sometime today and put it on a workbench.

I will keep you posted.

So I got a message from the dealer about my car. They said that they replaced three piston rings and they are waiting for the fourth kit to come from the USA. They will have the fourth piston ring kit by Thursday.

Does anybody know what are the procedures to replace the piston rings on an A4. I need to know if that might cause problems in the future. I always heard that if an engine is open it will never go back the way it was. Any comments?

I wouldn't worry about it. If they do the job properly, just monitor your oil and fuel consumption closely over say the next 6 months or so, and go back to the dealer if there's even a hint of a problem.

I am planning to maybe trade it for the S4 the dealer has.

I told the sales man that if they open the engine I dont want the car. The car has 55K and I got it 6 months ago.

I dunno what to do. I should be making a decision soon. The S4 is not cheap...but oh my God I need to convince my fiance.

Hello,

I got the car today. I am very sad and worried.

The car as I mentioned before had the piston rings replaced. I have told the salesman that if the car doesnt have a new engine, I will not take the car. He urged me to wait and see what happens.

So the piston rings were replaced. The dealer calls me and tells me that everything is fine after 2 weeks and a half but the battery wouldnt charge. So I will need to replace the battery and that I have no choice.

That day I told the dealer not to replace the battery because it is not my car anymore and I will not pick up the car.

But I passed by the dealer along with my fiance and I had a meeting with the manager. He made us wait for like 15 minutes outside his office. I believe to read the emails I have been sending. Then during our meeting we told him that we dont want the car and that we need to replace it with a better car. We told him that we had an oil consumption since the beginning and no body believed us. We were very professional, however, he was very unrealistic. I told him that I am making about 450 to 480 KM per tank driving 90% highway and he tells me its normal. I told him that with the A3 (the rental car), I am making 580 to 600KM and he tells me thats a total different car. But the fuel consumption rating are almost the same. Anyways, if you tell this guy that the moon is on fire, he would probably tell you its normal.
We were very angry and frustrated. On top of that he told us that he would take the car but we would lose about $8K. That's ridiculous. He keeps claiming that the car is fixed now. We on the other hand are trying to let him know that they sold us a car that had a problem.

We went and picked up the car today after the battery was replaced and we had a small chat with the salesman. He apologized about the situation we passed through. I mean the car is 6 months old and we had complained on the 10th day.

The car is still under manufacturer's warranty, and the certified warranty won't start until next January. But I am very worried that my car would get stuck having aftermath problems from the engine after my warranty expires. It's scary to get stuck with a $10k bill, if not more.

I wanted to replace the car with an S4, but then me and my fiance agreed to get the TT 2008 instead. I am very frustrated now that I can't replace or return the car.

U know, the whole idea of getting a certified car and spending that extra cash was to get a good reliable car. It wasn't that case. A car that spends about 1L every 1300km is ridiculous.

Today when I picked up the car the electronics were ok and in good working condition, but the engine seems to vibrate more now. I feel it through my seat and steering wheel. I am not sure if I got used to the A3 (CVT Tran.) since I have been driving it for 2 weeks and a half.

Anyhow, just wanted to share my experience. It sucks that consumers are not that protected. It really does!
