Smile Audio Gear Install - 2007 B7 A4 *pics*

Hey Guys,

Just thought I would throw out some pics of the audio install I just completed a few weeks ago on my 2007 A4 3.2 Quattro Titanium. It was a daunting task and took roughly 18-20 hours end to end. I worked quite slowly and at one point had most of the trim out of the car as well as all of the seats. Not my first rodeo but it was certainly one of the more challenging ones. I had no idea the A4 had a sub-floor in the front footwells! This car has more insulation, layering, and carpet foam than I have ever seen in a car... a true testiment to build quality, but very annoying to work around.

To give you some details I used a Kenwood DNX8120 Double Din head sending line level to a pair of Alpine V-Power amps which I mounted to the back of the folding rear seats. I ran 4 gauge power up the left side of the car and all of the audio/speaker/gps/sirius wire up the right side. The system is fed off of a 5-farrad cap (which I already had but don't really need) which is grounded to a bolt I found under the rear seats (trim bolt). I managed to snake the power wire up the left side of the car and then straight accross along the firewall (on the inside of the car) to one of the rubber grommets near the battery (on the passenger side of the car). If you ever need to punch the firewall on this beast for battery power, this is where I would recommend you do it. I pulled the grommet out and pushed a coathanger through the rubber firewall pad on the inside of the car and the wire snaked through with no issues. All in all I am pleased with how clean the wiring turned out. I am also using a PAC C2R-Audio CAN-Bus harness to feed the deck and an Axxess ASWC steering wheel control module to retain my factory steering wheel audio controls. I've got a bunch of crap punched through into the glovebox for the ipod interface, usb interface, sirius module, etc (no pics included) and I mounted the bluetooth mic on the steering column.

I am quite satisfied with the end result and I have not even replaced the factory (non-bose) door speakers. The sound quality is amazing through the factory speakers when amplified with a proper amp (not that tiny thing under the rear trunk trim). I may still go with some JL C5's in the doors... but we'll see.

Here are the pics, the deck looks like its glaring badly in the pics but actually there is hardly any glare in reality from the driver's seat. What looks like electrical tape holding the wiring in the trunk is actually velcro tape which works amazingly well in this car, you can use it to stick the wiring in a nice path and it will not move. Both seats do fold independently and the amps aren't really a bother... for me anyway, the sub does take up quite a bit of room in this car, but that's the price I pay for good sound. I drive the car like an a-hole so the ratchet strap holding the sub in place was pretty much a must.
