Hi guys, i realise my last post about this topic was a bit unorganized. I have the opportunity to purchase a 2006 Audi A4 2.0T FWD w/ CVT. It has 49,000km's on it and it is going for $20,800, and $22,800 with CPO from Uptown Audi in Markam Ont. Is this a good deal? The car is spotless inside. An older couple were the previous owners. They lived in stouffville and never drove it apparently. They came back in and bought a new A4.
What are some things i should know?
Is the CVT Transmission really a piece of garbage?
Are the engines from the FWD and the Quattro the same and just the trannys are different?

I currently drive a 2004 G35 Coupe. What would the maintenance be like on the A4 Compared to the G35..about the same..less..more?

Are their alot of problems with the quattro that i should know about???

The engines are the same. CVT however, it is not the best. I personally don't like it at all, drove one for a year. Get quattro and tip or FWD manual.

+1, My buddy owns the same G35 as you have, and his repair bills are usually cheaper then mine. But that also depends where you live. Expect to pay more for the service on any german car, but at the same time, this car is not something you buy and wait till it breaks to fix it. A friend of mine had a 1997 A4 with 460 000km's on it and still ended up selling it for a fair price. However he maintained it as per Audi recomendations and it paid off. If you are looking for a very solid reliable Audi, you should look into not having the turbo version, it will save you quite a few headaches. Check out the 3.0 engine on an A4 then. But if you are after power and looking to chip, get more HP, then you want the turbo version. For the 3.0 it is going to be a bit cheaper to fix, but the timing belt job costs more and it is a more reliable Audi engine, however there are no upgrades for the engine, unless you are willing to spend $4000 and up for a super charger.

although the price is very tempting and the mileage is very low for that year, i would stay away because of the cvt. The engine is fine, the transmission is the weak link here. Spend a bit more now to get a quattro with tiptronic, it'll be cheaper in the long run because you'll be spending more fixing the cvt. That's what i would do.

Hi Dan, that is interesting. I looked at the same car.
I was hesitant because of the poor reviews of the CVT tranny.

I concluded that I would only go for it with a full warranty which would only last for 2 years. Since I have had lots of problems with my curent A4, I feel 2 years is not enough.
I called a mechanic and asked him about the Frontrak and CVT . He said that they do have problems. Also that he figures that the car would really depreciate fast and probably only be worth 10k or so in 2 years.
