Default "S" and + / - on shifter

Hi,

So sorry if this maybe a dumb question - but on my gear shifter (Auto) there is another gear "S" directly below "D", and to the right of that, a + and - button - what do those do?

Sean

S = sport mode and holds gears at higher revs

+, - is a manual shift up (+) or down (-) by user preferance

S will just hold the gears longer, but if you keep it in D and keep your pedal to the floor its going to do the same as having it in S.

No damage at all, only cost was the extra gas.

Yes it does since the upshift occurs at a higher RPM. Assuming you have the trip computer/DIS display put that into instantaneous consumption mode. You'll get a good feel for how much fuel is being used at any instant in time.

Can you shift in and out of "S" regardless of speed, or does the vehicle need to be at a standstill with the brake pedal depressed?
