Hi guys,

Before the winter, I got into a minor fender bender and got a scuff on the left side of my front bumper. It isn't that bad, but it is noticeable. The scuff is about the size of 2 credit cards (maybe a bit less). I took it to the dealership today to see what they could do about it, and they said that since the paint was sort of rippled, they couldn't really buff it out. They said that they would charge around 800-1000$ to repaint the bumper.

My question is: What should I do about this? Should I take the dealership's offer, should I look around for a cheaper body shop to do it (and if so how much could I save), or should I just buy a new custom bumper for my car (which would look cool).

 

It's really tough to tell from the photo how bad the damage is, but I was rear ended at a low speed and the resulting damage was scuffs on the bumper like you describe. The dealer's body shop charged the insurance company nearly $2,000 to fix it. I'd say the price you were quoted sounds reasonable for a dealer.
If you can feel the ripples in the paint when you pass your hand over the bumper, I'd say that the damage is beyond what polish can hide.

 

Any good body shop should be able to blend in the paint for a couple of hundred tops...thats what i would get done.
